42 year old "virgin"
42 year old "virgin"
Hi folks,
I'm 42, have never smoked pot before, and am interested in trying it.
I'll be travelling in a few weeks to Germany (Karlsruhe) and plan to drive over to the Netherlands for the first weekend. Not necessarily Amsterdam. Possibly just a nice small town closer to the German border.
I'm looking for recommendations on towns/coffee shops which would be good for a complete "virgin", where the folks won't be condescending to an old(er), somewhat (though not completely) ignorant guy. I'm not interested in being in the middle of any "tourist" area where I might simply get ripped off but also am not wanting to be "in the middle of nowhere" where folks won't want to help a neophyte or may not speak English, etc. Places that provide/rent bongs, etc. would be preferred.
I'm also looking for suggestions on what to try first, second, etc. and any other first-time advice anyone wishes to offer.
Finally, if I'm travelling privately by rental car, and staying in a smoking-allowed room in a typical hotel, what are the risks of getting caught taking a little bit back with me to Germany to enjoy over the remainder of the trip?
Thanks!

I'm sure Sh@dy (german cool dude on here) might help you out with advices.
But about Amsterdam, it's not only a touristic place where tourists gets ripped off, it's also a fantastic city, with unique atmosphere, lot of things to do and visit.
You might regret later if you pass on Amsterdam, especially if you don't plan to come back in the near future.
Peace

Hello mate, Karlsruhe is a long way from the dutch border, 200 - 300km!
However, probably the closest nice town in the Netherlans would be Maastricht, you might have to check the map. Or Venlo, this is very close to the border but is more of an industrial town. I've spent many months working there and there are couple half decent coffee shops in town, although I can't remember the names.
If it is the first time you've smoked though, I'd recommend buying 1g of what ever takes your fancy and smoke it within staggering distance of your hotel
Have fun

Better late than never I guess!
Amsterdam is a strange town, and if you're not used to that sort of thing, it might not be the best environment to smoke in the first time. It is a little weird there, and smoking might make it even weirder. But, I don't want to poison your mind because it is best that you go there, and experience it all for yourself. Don't read too much, just find out where to go, then go there, and see what it's like.
Almost everyone in Europe speaks English to varying degrees, so don't worry about that too much. And if you go to a coffee shop, it is a legit business, so you are not going to get ripped off. Just stay away from people trying to sell you things on the street, because most of them will.
