42 year old "virgin" heading that way

Post by ps02210 »

(I posted this in the Introductions forum and got a few useful replies, but figured it'd be good to repost it here, which seems a more appropriate place for my questions)

Hi folks,

I'm 42, have never smoked pot before, and am interested in trying it.

I'll be travelling in a few weeks to Germany (Karlsruhe) and plan to drive over to the Netherlands for the first weekend. Probably Amsterdam, but not necessarily. Possibly just a nice small town closer to the German border.

I'm looking for recommendations on towns/coffee shops which would be good for a complete "virgin", where the folks won't be condescending to an old(er), somewhat (though not completely) ignorant guy. I'm not interested in being in the middle of any "tourist" area where I might simply get ripped off but also am not wanting to be "in the middle of nowhere" where folks won't want to help a neophyte or may not speak English, etc. Places that provide/rent vaporizers, bongs, etc. would be preferred.

I'm also looking for suggestions on what to try first, second, etc. and any other first-time advice anyone wishes to offer.

Finally, if I'm travelling privately by rental car, and staying in a smoking-allowed room in a typical hotel, what are the risks of getting caught taking a little bit back with me to Germany to enjoy over the remainder of the trip?

Thanks!

i only know about amsterdam, so i can only talk that....

my advice would be, dont buy your FIRST weed from the red light district.

im not saying the red light distrcit is a bad place, quite the opposite, its a really fun place with tons of bars and coffeeshops, but it is a real tourist trap, and while most of the coffeeshops are great, if you are going to get rripped off because its your first time, then its most likely that it willl be in one of the shops there.

(incdientaly, if youve never been to amsterdam, go there at some point, its a mind blowing place)

Look on the map on this website, there are many more coffeeshops not listed, but all of those ones listed, are a safe bet for a place to go.

when it comes to buying some weed, be open, and honest. 99.9% of the people in the shops speak english, very well, so just say 'ive never smoked beofre, what do you recomend for a beginner.'

you dont have to buy either, there is no obligation. be strong, and if you dont like the service you are getting, and dont trust the guy, just leave, and very soon youll find a shop where someone is willing to help you have the best first time experience you can.

im sure you are aware that there are all sorts of strengths and qualities to different strains. so why not ask 'can i try a begineers sativa (high) and a beginers indica (stone)'. then you can work out what you like best.

--------

other tips:

you can take the weed you bought, with you to another coffeeshop. buy a coke or a coffee, and smoke your weed there. so theres definatly no pressure to smoke everything where you bought it.

aside from plain cannabis, shops sell pre rolled joints, and also have bongs/vaporizers to use, if you cant roll. so dont worry on that front.

----

have a good trip, itll be a real eye opener.

My advice is not to try, is it worth all the hassle if you do get caught??

Enjoy your trip, enjoy whichever town you decide to visit, enjoy your smoke and enjoy the excitement of planning your next trip.

P.s. DONT GET HIT BY A BIKE !!!

I guess that depends on what the "hassle" would be. Anyone with any direct, or indirect, experience about that?

I have traveled in Germany by train and by auto. Most places in Germany, 3 grams max for personal use. I have taken over much more than that, just cause that's what I normally carry with me. Hopefully sh@dy, from Germany, can clarify things a bit more for you. Peace.

Luckily for me I only had just under 5 g accidentaly left in my grinder when i got stopped in 2006 and my second bit of luck was that I was still in Holland. I had to sign a letter/statement to say I had had it taken off me and after being patted down and my bags emptied I was told to go on my way... The worst thing for me was the embarresment of my GF getting her stuff searched too. (she's not a smoker but came with me to see what all the fuss is about)

So not worth the hassle..

I never take anything through customs now as I obviously will be marked on a system somewhere.
