Nicely written Matt. I'm really interested how your girlfriend copes with the good stuff. My wife, who had smoked for years, but has had a break for a while, is a wee bit iffy about the strength of the stuff we're gonna get in a few weeks.
Looking forward to part 2. :D

Hi mate, well, like I said in the TR, the first smoke she had was a little bit concerning, but once she was used to it she was fine, and just had to know her limits. So basically she didnt smoke that much, except on the last day when her tolerance had been built up a little.
Id roll one and spark it, smoke it to half, pass it to her and depending how strong it was/how stoned she felt shed either just have a couple or have a bit more, but I always got it back, which was nice :)

Just make sure she starts slowly man, its a marathon not a sprint

have a good trip dude

Day 2, Thursday 2nd October.

Post by bigbuds »

Day 2, Thursday 2nd October.

The alarm on my phone was playing the camp German electro disco tune I have as an alarm for some reason for about 7 minutes before it registered with my brain. It was 8:30something and I wanted to get up and make an early start , but my eyes were far too heavy from last nights dive into the deep end of quality smoke, and I had to put another hour on the alarm. Kel didn’t complain. Man they shouldn’t make these beds so comfy, its so hard to drag yourself out.

Half past nine came, and I felt loads better for the extra hour. After a lovely coughing and spitting fit (sorry guys maybe this is getting a bit too detailed) we jumped in the shower and went down for breakfast. Croissants, bread rolls, 3 different meats, cheese, fresh peppers, tomatoes, cucumber, hard boiled eggs, a selection of cereals and juices, and coffee and tea in abundance sets you up brilliantly for the day.

There was only us and Miami John having brekkie this morning, and we spent the first ten minutes discussing the economic crisis in the states and in the world in general. Well I say discussing, it was actually more of a monologue, with Miami john telling us how in the USA theres a constant smog in the air which the government are pumping out, which keeps everyone under control and numbed in the head. Since arriving in Dam he’d noticed that the haze in his head had gone and he was thinking clearer. Right. To be honest though it would explain a lot of things.

He also told us how he couldn’t draw any dollars out of the ATM this morning, as the country was collapsing and the world was coming to an end. However if we needed a massage he could give us the number of a girl who had changed his life. And he’d tipped her 500 euros, she was that good. Changed his life. Taking a good couple of hits on his pipe, Miami John bade us farwell and left, we didn’t see him again which was a shame, paranoia and delusions aside he was a nice guy, and good for a laugh.

Breakfast was followed by a big joint of the NYC diesel, which again hit the spot and had me all excited and fuzzy headed. It was a very smiley, warm and fuzzy buzz with a nice head rush and I reminded myself to grab a bit more before we headed out. The first stop was an Internet café to sort out our online check in for the return flights. There is free internet in The GHE bar, but they have no printing facilities so we went off to find a nearby place to get it done.

We walked straight across the damrak, to cut through to Nieuwezjds Voorburgwal, and that happens to be the road where 420 is situated. Having read good things about the blueberry there I decided to pop in and maybe grab a bag. I asked the budtender girl for a look, who was very friendly, and although it looked nice, big buds and the right colours, it smelled really grassy, not fruity at all so I politely said Ill leave it thanks. I was disappointed as it was a nice place and I would have liked some nice Blueberry. Oh well.

We carried on up the street and there was a big internet place right in front of us. 1euro plus change gave us half an hours browsing, and we soon found out that Schipol doesn’t do online check in and we’d have to get there earlier than expected on Saturday morning, bummer.

We headed up the damrak to grab some more supplies from the supermarket up there. I say supplies, when I actually mean 3 big bags of cheesy bugles, some paprika Lays, Onion rings, Nibbitz, Peanut and normal M+Ms, a couple of Danish’s and some bottles of water. The guy on the checkout looked at us as if to say, “nice diet you’ve got there guys”. I bet they do such a roaring trade on the bugles et al, with stoners like us everywhere stocking up on munchies. I highly recommend the bugles by the way, by far the best munchy crisps I’ve found in my illustrious smoking career.

From the shop we headed down damstraat, over two canals and left at the next towards the Green place, which Id read a lot of positives about. No wonder. I was like a kid in a sweet shop in here, and had my lungs been in fighting form Id likely have bought 5 or 6 different varieties but combined with my lack of money Id decided to go steady, as I’m that tight I really didn’t want to have too much and have to give it or throw it away. So I asked to look at the Trainwreck, the Blueberry Cheese, the L.A Con, a couple of hazes and diesels, and man they were all HIGH QUALITY.

All fresh but well cured, sticky crystally lumps of green, and so nice and smelly. This is without a doubt the best bud I saw on my trip, and it is worth the couple of extra euros to buy here. The bud tender was nice too, telling me his favourites and asking what kind of high I wanted. He said the L.A Con was particularly good at the moment, and I wanted the Blueberry Cheese, so I had 2 grams of each.

The Green Place

2g Blueberry Cheese - 13e per G

2g L.A Con - 14e per G

I had planned pre trip to spend some time in the Green Place, as I heard they had a nice tobacco room, and indeed it looked spacious, but the weather was so nice we had to sit outside. The Green place’s seating was unfortunately in the shade so we walked a bit further down the street towards Nieuwmarkt and grabbed the last table available at Hill St Blues. I went in and grabbed a couple of drinks at very reasonable prices, and had a look at the weed menu. Nothing grabbed my attention particularly and it was all on show in boxes and looked a bit crumbly, so I didn’t bother getting anything here.

We sat outside, bathed in a glorious autumnal sunshine surrounded by happy people without a care in the world, watching people going about their business, cars queuing behind a rubbish truck and all the hustle and bustle of the square. I rolled a big fat spliff of the Blueberry Cheese and sat in my heavenly surroundings getting steadily baked. It was sooooooooooooooo tasty, and that’s really not enough O’s to emphasise how nice this gear was. I could see other smokers looking over when they caught a sniff of the lovely smell, and we sat and smoked a couple and drank some lovely tropical juice. The high was a lot more uppity than Id expected, and it was a real eye squasher. I could feel the lovely burning comfort flooding through my body, and had a nice little adrenaline wobble in my belly. What a smoke. And it felt so easy on my poor diseased lungs.

We didn’t want to leave, and I was ready for another, so we had a joint of the Northern Lights from yesterday, which isn’t quite as aggressive as the BBC. Another hour passed and we were just sat talking, laughing and having a great time watching life go by.

We decided we better go take the shopping back to the room and think about something to eat. We set off through the Markt and down towards Warmoestraat, and I had a noticeable wobble to my step, which was amusing. We decided we deserved a pint for our efforts and the GHE discount claimed another victory, did I mention how great it is getting cheap beer and gear?

We sat in the back area where we had eaten breakfast what seemed like 12 hours or so ago (actually only 4 hours had passed) and enjoyed our cold beers and another nice spliff of the BBC which was burning a hole in my pocket. We were highly amused by a 40ish year old guy who was the spitting image of my alcoholic bud smoking great guy of a next door neighbour Barry, who was sat smoking and drinking in standard Barry attire of England shirt and Green jacket.

I don’t think Ive mentioned the stairs to our room yet, which was at the top of the GHE building. Two flights of very steep stairs were always a challenge, but never more so for me than this afternoon. My personal Everest conquered, we dropped the shopping off, laid on the bed and had a fat Super Silver Haze joint and watched a bit of TV.

Half an hour later and it was food time, so we set off on a mammoth walk, trying to find a nice looking sandwich shop with fresh wares rather than the ones that sit there all week in a window collecting flies and dust. Id read about a great baguette shop in someone’s trip report (the name escapes me now, it might have been hasjdreamer) and I had noted down the rough location on my ACD map. We couldn’t find anything resembling it though, and were about to give in to McDonalds or KFC when I remembered a little shop across from 420 I had seen earlier.

It had lots of locals in and the customers all seemed to be waiting for their orders, which could only be a sign off freshly made butties. We headed back down there and it was quieter now the dinner rush was over, and We ordered 2 Broodje + Mokem (probably got that all wrong, chicken and bacon it was) sandwiches which looked nice on the display.
It turned out they were hot sandwiches, the chicken and bacon cooked fresh in the kitchen. Ten minutes later and they were ready, and we took some warm sausage rolls with different meats in, paid 15 euros for the lot and made the short walk back to our room to eat in comfort.

I have honestly, never had a better sandwich in my life. And I’ve eaten a lot of sandwiches. The meat was excellent quality, the chicken thinly cut and with some kind of yellow curry/spicy flavouring, and the bacon was well cooked and had zero fat on it. It was also accompanied by some fresh salad and mayo, on the most perfect sandwich bread ever. I nearly cried when it had gone. I took pictures.
The random meat rolls were also gorgeous, and we both said we’d have to eat there again tomorrow.

Only one way to follow that… A Danish. And a spliff, of course. I really wanted to try the LA Con, but knew it was a bit of a monger, but couldn’t resist so I mixed it with the very uplifting NYC Diesel. I prepped the lungs with a big cough up session, much to Kels delight (she must find me so attractive) and lit the beast up. What a combo. It was very very tasty, and it hit me very hard. I felt marvellously locked to my bed, my body was heavy, but my head was active and responsive.

We laid watching crappy daytime TV and thinking about the trip so far. Its moments like this that make Amsterdam trips for me, not the sights, the coffeeshops, the walking about, the bars, shops and people, great that all those things are. It’s the relaxing, stoned, quiet moments shared with someone special where you just smile stupidly like a big kid that I really enjoy and look forward to experiencing again.

Wanting to maintain this great feeling, I rolled up a Blueberry Cheese spliff and it carried the high on excellently. I think these 3 strains are my new favourites, the BBC, LACon, and NYCDiesel were individually great but mixed and smoked together were an excellent way to spend a day. Their tastes and effects compliment each othe rin the perfect way for me.

Half an hour later, and too stoned to be bothered to leave the room we rolled a Northern lights and SSH mix which was the final straw, Kel nodded off first and while I fleetingly considered a solo walk, I closed my eyes for a second and the LA Con said “I got ya now punk!” and dragged me into an hours power nap.

Waking up and feeling slightly guilty for sleeping, even though that’s kinda what I go on holiday for, to relax and chill, I headed downstairs and next door for a look at some more of the GHE’s gear. Having a bag full of indicas with the cheeses and LA, I wanted some more uplifting stuff, and asked the dealer what he thought. He recommended the K2, which I smelled and instantly wanted to smoke. He said it was a particularly good batch so I grabbed …

The Greenhouse Effect

3g K2 - 18e

It had a lovely lemony fragrance to it, and was hyper crystallised, so I knew I was in for a good smoke, but it was way better than I expected. It was such a clear high, just what id been looking for to battle against the stones of the bud I already had. It was a happy high, and a fruity taste but on exhaling it tasted like smoking a hash joint, such was the amount of resiny crystals. Again, good gear at a very good price. I sat and smoked a spliff, and then went up to wake Kel.

We went for a stroll, and decided on the way back we would go to wok to walk for our evening meal, as it came highly recommended both by friends and you guys on this very site. We got there around 7pm I think, and it was packed. We started to queue, but realised we were looking at a half hour wait at least, and that’s not my idea of fun, so we left. We were really in the mood for Chinese now though, so headed back towards the damrak and saw the Lemongrass Wok.

Im usually a bit suspect about food places nearer the centre, but I was far too hungry to be too concerned and we ordered 1 lot of noodles with shrimp in oyster sauce, and 1 with chicken and teriyaki sauce, and it came to 14e, which I thought was very reasonable. We went back to the room to eat and I really enjoyed the food. It was very good quality, especially the shrimps which I was a little worried about. I also got to eat the last bit of Kels as she was full, one of the great perks of being in a relationship, left over’s, mmmm.

My notes get a bit sketchy here, but I know I had a lot more of the K2 and BBC and finished the Diesel off, watched some TV and talked and smoked the evening away. At about 11ish I went on a solo mission for chips and mayonnaise for us, leaving Kel watching some crap American thing on RTL8. On my way back I saw The Red Light District was busy and there were groups of lads chanting something up the street. It reminded me why we spend most of the evening in our room. I know some people like that kind of atmosphere, and I’m sure if we walked out of the Centrum we could find somewhere more chilled, but when Kel is smoking she needs to be in a relaxed atmosphere, and I’m more than happy being comfy in bed as long as ive got plenty to smoke.

The last thing I have on my notes for today is “Mooooore K2” and then it ends, which I assume means we went to sleep. I really don’t remember much at all after the Lemongrass, such was the amount of smokage. I do however remember paying for it the next morning, doubled up over the toilet coughing up yet more great stuff from my poor lungs.

Come on boys, you can make it, one more day and the Ill try and give you a few days rest. Ill at least cut down.

Fantastic report, a pleasure to read!

Good to hear the GHE is a cool place to stay, and the breakfast sounds just about right.

Less than a week to go...
A spliff a day keeps the...errrm...what was it?

Hey, great report so far. I know the feeling of being ill in Dam! I travel terribly and will usually be sick on the flight meaning I have a sore, burning throat for the first day or two...

Going back in a month or so. Can't wait. The Green Place is on the list!

it would sure seem everyone who visits there really enjoys the smoke lately. the funny thing is.. up until a few months ago.. i had never heard of the place. now it would seem everyone talks about it like the new grey area
