Fine for smoking joints in public

Rotterdam has decided that it will no longer be soft on people smoking joints in public.

Trouw reports, anyone caught smoking marijuana in public will be fined EUR 50 as of November.

Rotterdam Mayor Ivo Opstelten says: "Smoking joints in public was always forbidden, but up to now it has always been tolerated."

Since it has emerged how damaging marijuana can be, political tolerance for the habit has evaporated. Just under a year ago,
the city council established that a large number of adolescents were "smoking away their teenage years". Coffee shops are not allowed within
250 metres from secondary schools. The Christian Union wants to go further and include primary schools in the legislation.

I have to say the police in Amsterdam seem to be incredibly intolerant to smoking on the streets of the city these days. I can remember the great hilarity of smoking a joint in front of a dutch police officer! Now all it will bring is a load of hassle...

I even attended a Paradise Island, dutch dance event this summer and my cannabis was confiscated on the gate! No drugs! I said this is Amsterdam FFS! The choice was clear, dump the weed to enter, or fuk off!

Sad days folks, Amsterdam is a changin...

what if ur smoking a bowl, or some other non joint method, is it specifically against joints?

yet another freedom goes down in flames......this political correctness is getting outta hand....yes make it tougher for teenagers under 18 to toke...but at 18 you can die for yer country,drink and vote .....this is bullshit thought up by a powerful minority....any freedom scares them!!!!

yeah, obviously, thats why coffeeshops exist, to give people somewhere to buy and smoke soft drugs. soft drugs are tolerated rather than legalised, so its all a bit grey...

yep what boner said....or keep well away from people...i.e. keep it subtle if yer gonna take the risk....but i'm happy to do it in c/s or hotel
