Ask a silly question...

‘All the info you need is already on the forum’
‘Use the search facility’
Phrases like this I’ve heard many times on Forums that have a larger member base, this usually occurs when somebody new to the forum asks a question that’s been asked before.
This kind off attitude tends to put me off these forums, as I believe if your not going to respond in a positive manner i.e. provide a link to the appropriate thread or just reiterate what has already been discussed, then you should just bite your tongue no matter how much it frustrates you.
I recently posted a question here which, judging by some of the responses had been discussed before. Most peps replied with helpful information, but a few members took the time to respond with such phases as the ones a listed above.
Now am I in the wrong here? Isn’t the point of forums like this to be able to discuss openly issues and questions even if they have been asked before? I see it as a positive thing to do, as new information may now be available since the original question was posted, it also brings to light important information to new forum members.
Yeah, maybe I should have done a bit of research before posting a question that’s been asked before, but it’s a hell of lot easier to make a quick post.
Sorry for the rant, but I just had to get this off my chest.
Take care all
Boris

Maybe you're referring to the Dutch Secrets post, non? I think a lot of people took the original post about this too personally. I can see why you might have taken this wrong, not knowing that. No worries about asking questions, sometimes it's just better to post. Who knows you might have answered a question that someone else just joining was gonna ask anyways. Don't sweat it.

Please just ask any questions you have, as far as searching the forums is concerned it's normally down to the specifics of the search, typing in Dutch Secret wont get as many results as moms.

The way I see things is thus: just because a thread with an exact or similar subject matter has existed previously or even recently then there is no need to give the new thread negative feedback.
Sure it can be frustrating for established or long term members who know the forums a lot better than others and therefor be able to find existing subject matter with little less than a blink of the eye. And as a moderator of a totaly non related forum myself I can speak from experiance. But I often try to think in the way of a new member when a common thread and or question comes up.
More so when as mentioned new information can come to light in the absence of new posts on an old subject upon the starting of a new thread on the same subject.

Just wanted you to know, Boris, I was following your advice to the absolute letter. I ignored the post you are referring to because it was obvious you hadn't researched the site very well and I couldn't be arsed with your question.
As for this post, it's much ado about nothing.
