Hi All Just back from a short trip to the Netherlands and thought I would post a report
I flew out on the Wed 22nd & thanks to the helpful people on here & Fly By Nights menu page I had a plan for my few hours in Amsterdam in the morning
Map printed (as well as the times of my trains to get me to Hengelo ,& of course I left all the important bits of paper in my bag in the locker at the airport so it was work from memory time
once out of central station I set off to Barney's & got the Hawaiian Snow & a coffee rolled a nice big one, once that was finished I plugged my self in to REM on the mp3 player and set of to find my targets
After the smoke in barneys the walk down the single on an autumn morning was rather invigorating & I was most impressed to find Abraxas from memory & not having been since December 2000
This was just a buy & fly to get some skuff, but I was really impressed with the bud tenders advice to the couple in front of me in the queue
" Dot treat it like a beer, there is nothing wrong with having a few puffs, putting it down then finishing it later" & "I could sell you something that costs more, but I wont get anything out of it & neither will you"
After Abraxas I still had my marching legs on so walked all the way back up singel and called in to Dampkring 2
Purchased some temple ball to try to slow my legs down
& made a mistake I haven't made since 1986, ordered tea & realised instantly that when it arrived at my table I would have a cup of warm water & a tea bag!!
The temple ball nicely knocked the edge off the up
But myself I am not overwhelmed with the place but that is just me & could have just been a bad day
One thing to note however is the Tobacco smoking upstairs is strictly unofficial as all the tables have notices saying tobacco not allowed & also smoking joints outside the shop is not allowed
After that I doubled back to pop down to Grey Area to get some crystals
I knew the place was small but not that small got the crystals & stayed inside to build one then smoked it on the seats on the bridge, a very nice smoke
And a very friendly little shop
As my time in Amsterdam was limited & I was impressed I had found all the coffeeshops on my shopping list with out a map it was time for a beer
So off to In de Wilderman, a couple of beers a really good chat with a 70 to 80 yearold Dutch lady who was sat knocking back some 12% brew having come down from Nijmegen to buy sausages
& she was wanting to buy me one of the 12% jobbies but I had a train to catch & always find departing from central hard work even without some & beer first
so it was then the train up to Hengelo (Darkside of The Moon & Wish you were Here as a sound track) then once at the mates house I got to watch the Hawaiian Snow put her marching legs on her
All in all a bloody good day
On the 23rd it was a casual slob/smoke in the house till lunch time then in to Hengelo & to the Moby Dick
2 changes since I was there in July First they now have a proper tobacco smoking area done with glass partition & door making the back of the shop the smoking area
& second as well as the standard menu they had a special of Cheese Haze for 12 or 12.5 Euros a gram, and a very nice smoke it was
We then just wandered round to get a feed then went to the Smoker Friendly Bar Cafe St Louis, this apparently has been weed/hash friendly for ages
& has just added a glass partition to keep a smoking area
Several hours of playing pool, drinking Hoegaarden 7 smoking the Cheese Haze from The Moby Dick & the Skuff from Abraxas
Another dammed fine day
A big thanks to all on this forum who post reviews & especially to Fly By Night for his menu page
You made planning my short time In Amsterdam possible as a shopping trip for my time in the Hengelo area
