thinking of booking a trip in January. cheaper/lesscrowded?
Been contemplating booking a 7-10day trip to the dam for mid January 09. Anyone know if this time is less crowded than usual or cheaper hotel rooms?
educating myself and waiting for the next trip.

The first couple of weeks after the New Year are the quietest times of the year in Amsterdam as far as tourists go. It is a lot less crowded in coffeeshops and on the streets. Come on over and enjoy it! I sure do!cantona7 wrote:Been contemplating booking a 7-10day trip to the dam for mid January 09. Yes on both counts, quieter and lodging is somewhat less expensive. We went last December and spent a couple nights in Hotel Cordial on Damrak at E59 per night, plus a few nights at an apartment on Amstel for E85 per night.
Of course, the cold weather and 8-9 hours of sunlight each day make it a bit different in winter.

yes i know how amsterdam is in winter. i was there from the 20-24th of december last year. was sooo cold. but i liked the lesser amount of people. the sun wouldn't even be out when i hit the streets at 7 am(jet lag)

I will be there Jan. 5-14. If you're trip crosses over with mine, we should share a smoke or two!!
I was thinking the same thing a couple months ago when I booked. Cheaper, Quieter.. although i dont want it to be ghostly quiet.
The 9 hours is a drag but if it means my airfare and apartment are half the price as summer, that puts a smile on my face.
Being from Wisconsin in the states, the cold weather is a minor inconvenience!!
Be sure to update your travel dates if you book..

dont mind the cold at all. daylight isn't a factor either. in fact i like getting up at 7 and being able to be in a coffeeshop by 9 watching the sun come up, its a trip.
onelovemarley: if my dates are the same as those i would indeed be up for a smoke or a small coffeeshop crawl.

We normally go on/around the 1st feb (wifes birthday) and we love it, theres a chance of snow, you get spoken to in dutch first which makes you feel more local and it's a lot quieter, I say go for it.
I dont know about apartments being half price by the way, yes they can be a little cheaper but not half price.

I done a lot of overtime for the last few months so fuck it im gonna have to go to holland again!
I m thinking to go for another trip there at the end of June or begining of February, but im going to enjoy my 3 days trip later on this month with some mates before i decide the dates
I will be by myself this time and it has to be week-end and a monday. ( comin saturday morning , leaving monday latest as possible )
As allways i will be using the coach ( i dont do planes ) and will book 2 nights in an hostel ( so as to spend more euros on smoke
). coach and 2 nite hostel would cost me no mre than 80 quids
nice!
