I've had the Strawberry Haze on my last few visits from one or another of the Greenhouse shops and it has always been very good. Quite loose, crumbly buds this time but taste and effect excellent.

Certainly tastes sweet - more of a hint of strawberry than an overpowering taste.

Very nice report Matty. Stix temple ball is always a good smoke. Where is Frederics bike shop located? I think my next trip I will try that mode of travel for a change.

It's on the Brouwersgraacht, which runs parallel to the Haarlemerstraat - if you go down the Haarlemerstraat towards the centre and turn right before Popeye CShop - the bike warehouse to choose your bike (they've got hundreds!) is on your left and the agency to pay is around the corner.

Sorry for the delay

Day 3 - Friday

Today was the day that i was to cycle to Haarlem. I'd got my bike, done my research (thanks especially to Pala and Adamster from ACD for info) and was ready. I knew which route i was taking, how long it would take etc etc. So, i woke up to Dutch radio from my alarm at 9.30am full of beans (even after the previous late night smoking session). I hammered down a filling breakfast, rolled up a doobie for the journey, packed a little bag and....upon opening the curtains it was throwing it down. Suddenly the sofa and that reefer 'for the journey' seemed far more appealing! I convinced myself if the rain eased i'd go later but although the rain did stop for small intervals, it was too miserable to undertake a long cycle.

Around lunchtime, i managed to motivate myself to get out in the rain so i went to the cafe over the canal for some lunch - very nice, tasty chicken, ham and spinach pasta in a cheese sauce. Suitably filled, i headed off to one of my coffeeshop finds from my last visit - Dutch Flowers. I was amazed to meet the same young French girl i met in Central on my last trip, here in Dutch Flowers. (looking back now, i guess i shouldn't have been that suprised - she works in Amsterdam after all) I spent the afternoon with her, smoked most of her AK47 weed (i kept insisting on buying some but she kept refusing) and then early evening she left to catch the late train home. A glance at my watch told me it was 8pm (what!!!) so i bought some hash cause i felt a bit guilty at having been sat in Dutch flowers for 6 hours and only buying 2 drinks! I chose the double hash on recommendation of the budtenderess (is that the right term for a female budtender??). I then decided i wanted to eat (munchies!!) and couldn't wait to get back to the apartment so, remembering a nice baguette place over near the Nieuwmarkt, I headed off on my bike - eventually i did anyway! I'm gonna be totally honest here, at the risk of sounding a complete fool! I bought the hash, pocketed it, consulted my map, re route to the Nieuwmarkt and then walked out the shop, across the Spui and got nearly as far as Kadinsky, before remembering i had a bike and i'd locked it up right outside Dutch Flowers (man, was i stoned!!) I sheepishly walked back, hoping no-one from Dutch Flowers would notice, unlocked my bike and rode off!

The baguette place was just getting ready to close, so i was the last customer of the day. After a lovely tuna salad cheese baguette (does everything come with cheese), i decided while i was over that way to visit Bluebird, an old favourite. I was hoping for some Indian Cream hash, but alas, they had none this time, so i bought some Blue Cheese weed and went on my way. I noticed their smoking room was packed, as was the rest of the shop - just like the pubs in the UK, Friday night is a busy time for the cshops.

Heading back towards the apartment, i stopped off at Popeyes, with the sole intention of maybe buying a gram but mainly to use their internet to get my booking ref. for my return flight home on sunday. After using the net, i sidled up to the counter and the strange but ever-friendly budgeezer asked me what i wanted. He recommended
the Pink Kush and Aladdins Chocolate - i said i'd tried both before (has their menu changed at all in years?) but liked both so i bought a gram of each. He said to me when you buy the holy trinity of internet, pink kush and chocloate you get a free hit on the house bong and he produced this giant water-bong. I asked whats in it and he said a little bit of every weed and hash on the menu! I'm not really a bong-smoker tbh but by this point my tolerance was up and i was smashed anyway from all the smoking at DF so i thought what the heck and gave it a good go - blimey that went to my head! I thought it unwise to get straight back on the bike after that so settled in downstairs and began to skin one up. The geezer came over and saw me reading the sign they've got on every table about the smoking ban - "oh don't worry about that he said - use tobacco if you want", so i did, and smoked a reefer of pink kush, which was very nice indeed, quite strong too.

After that, it was getting near to the zero hour so i cycled back to the apartment to try the double hash from DFlowers - it was crumbly rather than squidgy but lovely and smooth to smoke and a real couch-lock high - a nice end to the day!

Day 4 - Saturday

Woke up to yet more rain - the furies had obviously decided my destiny was not in Haarlem this trip! Having forgotten to visit AH for supplies yeasterday i had nothing for breakfast so got ready to go out, but i could see the sealy bag of Blue Cheese sitting on the table looking at me, as yet untouched. I couldn't resist, so a quick roll and a cup of tea with a lovely blue cheese reefer, topped with some of the double hash from yesterday (i do like my hash-weed cocktails) was just the trick! The Blue Cheese was very strong, although a rather harsh smoke, you can really feel it on the throat. Personally, i like to enjoy my smoke, so i'm interested in more than just strength.

Wrapped up to the hilts, i headed out into the winter, only for the rain to stop and the sun to come out. My first idea was to cycle to Mellow Yellow, but i took a few wrong turns, got waylaid and found myself near the Leidesplein. After missing the turn for Dolphins (that Blue Cheese really affected my sense of direction) I stopped at Dampkring for a pick-up. There was a big queue, but i waited patiently and then asked for the best tasting hash. I got some Rifman Shabani (sp) hash and after taking one look at the packed shop, went on my way. I now decided on a mission to find The Green Place. Again, i cycled to where i thought it was, it wasn't there. I locked up the bike, walked around a bit and then gave up, diving in to Concious Dreams to escape the bad weather. After a short rest, and finishing off the Blue Cheese with some of the rifman hash, i headed out once more in search of The Green Place. No luck finding it, and this was really starting to annoy me until i remembered the guy from Hunters raving about the SSH. So, i popped into Hunters, bought a gram of Super Silver Haze, and settled in. The budtender remembered me and came over for my opinion just as i was finishing off a smoke. I have to say, the SSH lived up to his billing - it was excellent, strong yet nice to smoke, hard-hitting but gradual, rather than knock-out. I stayed a while, smoked some more and bought another gram for later - good stuff!

After that i got back on the bike, tripped over to Albert Heijn to buy some stuff for tea and tommorows brekkie and headed back tto the apartment. However, i had a change of heart and decided to cycle about for a bit. That's when i came across Het Gelderse - i've never seen or heard of this coffeeshop before but the Che Guevara sign drew me in. (Ernesto is a character who's always fascinated me). Inside, it was a fairly small shop with a couple of tables and some stools at the budtenders bar and at a big window. It's all decorated as a bit of a tribute to Che. In there, were 2 really friendly local guys playing chess. It was bitterly cold outside but the coffeeshop was roasting warm, which was great. I bought some Chocolope, which was amazing, a better batch than Grey Area had, so after smoking a gram, i bought some more! Really recommend the shop - relaxing vibe, mainly soft reggae music when i was there and a friendly budtender.

After that, i headed back to the apartment, knocked up some grub and enjoyed some of the best smokes i've had for some time - the chocolope from Het Gelderse, the SSH from Hunters and what was left of the Temple Balls from Stix.

Day 5 - Sunday

Last day :( but the weather was better. Flight at 8pm and I had till 3pm to leave the apartment and 3.30pm with the bike. First trip was to Betty Too where i have been going for a while now as i like the vibe and the bud there. As usual, i picked up some Kushage (i did ask if anything else was better first) which was to the usual high standard. I stuck around for a bit, smoking the kushage mixed with bits of hash i had left, before returning to the apartment. There, i made up some lunch with the last of my supplies and smoked a couple of spliffs. By then it was 2pm, so i locked up, left the keys in the pre-agreed place and set off to return the bike. After that (and on foot :? ) I made my way towards Central Station. I stopped off at some place and watched the Chelski-Liverpool game - wish i could remember where cause they had Kronenbourg Blanc (one of my favourite beers) on tap and i and many others happily skinned up and smoked in there.

After the game and feeling a bit stoned and a little tipsy, I wandered to the site of so many of my last smokes in The Dam - Rastababy - didn't buy any weed here, rarely do tbh but bought a couple of drinks and smoked two reefers made up of all my last bits of weed and hash - there was hardly any space left for any tobacco but my tolerance by now was right up so it didn'r really matter. So, having said goodbye to Amsterdam in the traditional way, I once more headed back to the big city life and 9-5 grind that so many of us call life.

I just know, if I rented a bike, I'd do this. I'm still going to take my chances next time, though.

Thanks for wrapping up a great report, Matty.

Green Place is right on the Nieuwmarket square. Too bad you couldn't find it.
