AK-47 and white widow.... nostalgia

Post by CHELSEA_SMOKERS_SOCIETY »

let me waffle for a bit....

despite going to a 'well to do' school in a lovely leafy area, of buckinghamshire, i and many of my peers still managed to discover the world of soft drugs, at the tender ages of 13/14.

for money reasons it was maily soap bar, we smoked. Fairly quickly after entering this new world of toking, we heard rumours about amsterdam and the incredible types of weed to smoke.

rumours went around our school of a strain called AK-47 (in 1997), it is supposed to be the most dangerous type of weed. "Its so strong that only the most hardcore can take it, loads of people have died because they couldnt handle it!" scary stuff. some lads even claimed to have tried it! wow!

rumours even went around that a type of weed called 'white widow' is actaully weed covered with cocaine! to make it extra strong!! oh my god!!

ahhhh the days of urban myths and bullshit stories. school kids are idiots eh?

over the years these ridculous claims were dismissed, and by 16 my friends and I we're well up on general cannabis knowledge. we still idiolised the two strains AK-47 and white widow, still never having tried them, but fully aware they were available in Amsterdam.

as soon as we were 18 (2001) we were there. we actaully drove there, we wanted to go there so quickly, we simply jumped in the car and drove, getting a ticket for the ferry in dover, and driving all accross france and belgium.

i wish i could remember my first strain in dam, but i cant. the three of us who went, were so knocked for 6 by the first joint, that we cant even remember the coffeeshop. i know it was not AK or WW, because we were on the look for them.

when we first found white widow, the excitment was over flowing. we all bought a gram each. this excitment, manifested itself into the biggest and most memorable fit of the giggles we have ever ever had. it must have lasted 25 minutes, and the laughter was infectious as the bud tender was laughing too, making us laugh more.

i remember the first ak-47 too. we discovered where it was, and we decided to sober up, go for a walk etc, before trying it. we wanted the whooole AK-47 effect to be pure, and not to dilute it with previuos spliffs. we made a giant spliff, and zzzzzzzzaaannggg. i was off my face. i had mild halucinations (light trails etc), and huge loss of balance. i was wasted.

at the time, i was 18, and making myslef throw up and getting paraletic on booze and smoke was my favourite thing to do, so AK-47 really ticked my boxes.

these two strains became a staple smoke for a couple of years, but i slowly started to lower my smoke intake, and change my perspective on what a trip to 'dam is about.

it used to be about getting as smahed as humanly possible, but now its about trying as many different types and maintainng a nice manageable high.

as its my last trip to dam for a looong while coming up, i want to try AK-47 again, for nostalic reasons.

so...... and this whole post has been building up to this question in a very long winded way....

why are AK-47 and white widow, down the cheaper end of the purchases nowadays?

is iT because new strains, are better/stronger (or vice versa AK and WW are weaker batches nowadays)??

or because,

strains are like a fashion? (i.e; whilst WW and AK are as good as Cheese, people want to smoke cheese more than AK or WW, thus they are cheaper.)

Cost comes down to 2 things.

1: Time it takes to grow.

2: The name game.

Boner nailed it, as usual. The sativas' increased costs are due to their longer flowering time and the attendant increases in energy costs and decreases in total number of harvests for the grower.

Some others, however, are what he called the "name game" and what you referred to as "like a fashion." For example, LA Confidential only takes 45-56 days to finish flowering, which decreases energy costs and maximizes harvests. Yet coffeeshops are getting E13-15 per gram for it.

I also have noted that Pot of Gold, which many rave about at E13 or E14 per gram, is a smoke worth a good rave, but at a price worth a good laugh before I either order something else or go to another coffeeshop.

The AK and WW are still perfectly good and perfectly available. You can have a lot of fun buying from the lower lines of coffeeshop menus.

I should of said I'm a big fan of the 'Old Skool' weeds as well, one of the best things I've ever had from Amsterdam was some AK-47 from Grey Area: http://aycu29.webshots.com/image/16388/ ... 090_rs.jpg

Second that. The AK from Grey Area was the catalyst for my 1st whitey in years on my last trip.

when in Dam i also went looking for WW because of all the stories and was a bit dissapointed by the high. maybe it was too indica for me but i wasn't hllucinating or anything, just really strong body buzz and loss of navigation skills. so i think its just good weed, but not crazy good like the sativas going for 10-13 euros per gram. im just a sativa lover. for me even orange bud is better than WW.
