My favorite is/was Pink Floyds, that little hostess gal was something else.

For me the best ones are the Rokerijs I and II. The atmosphere is unique, and you can really get trippy while analyzing the painting in Rokerij II. These coffeeshops have an own philosophy, and are the best for me personally.
Rokerij III and IV are ok, but not as good as the others.

My current favourites are definately different now to a couple of years ago. I used to really like Pink Floyd and Amnesia but neither really feels the same since the remodelling(s). Grey Area was also a big favourite for the quality of their smoke but last two trips I wasn't overly impressed with my purchases there, plus it isn't really somewhere you can set up camp for a few hours.

Current favourites would be Homegrown Fantasy, Stix (near Nieuwmarkt), Mellow Yellow, Dolphins, and Basjoe. I guess they all have that 'feel' about them to me. Nice and calm and great places to really sit back and enjoy being in Amsterdam.

Greenhouse anyone?

Post by child »

Why is nobody mentioning Greenhouse Tolstraat? I'll be in Amsterdam in just over a week and will concentrate my efforts in the Albert de Cuyp area. Katsu is on the list, as is Media and likely Mellow Yellow. I've read good things about Greenhouse, but wonder if this is all hype.

Is their weed all that? Is it a tourist trap? I've got only one day to get around (minus sleep, minus a concert, etc.)--is it a must see or can we skip it?

Hiya,
Im curious about Greenhouse reputation of late also. I have fond memories of them in 90s and like all things, brands go out of fashion. But I did have a flying visit to Greenhouse Namaste near Waterlooplein in March this year and if that visit was anything to go by, I suspect theres a reason why they're not mentioned much.

This CS is quite small but they now have a secure turnstile entry, the guy behing the counter was v rude and the only customers didnt look comfortable plus the weed was v overpriced and dry.

If anyone has better experience Id love to hear it though as many visitors to the Dam are on reasonably shortvisits, like myself, its best to avoid where possible places with poor service.

Having said that, Ive been to Reefer near Waterlooplein where the girl serving was in a foul mood trying to balance her till at 5pm on a Sunday but had 4 much better experiences. Its all in the mix

top shops

Post by Skwurl »

again,
one' man's treasure may be another man's crap....so keeping that in mind, to add to the prior top shop wisdom...

Stix II
Barney's Lounge
Amnesia
Grey Area
Katsu
twede kamer/dampkring
the Noon (for their Blueberry)

with twede kamer not being AS MUCH of a "grab-and-go" as grey area, if not overcrowded, can be a chill hang.
