As far as I know, you can go to almost any shop which is recommended on these sites. Most of the most famous shops do not have large varieties of weed, but most of them have two or three very special strains.
The Dampkring and the Abraxas are said to have one of the largest menues, but I have never been to them.
You just should stay away from the tourist traps close to the central station and in the RLD. Although also there there are some good exceptions.
Barney's has always the most famous strains, as they often won the Cannabis Cup. Although it is a bit more expensive than others you will always find first class weed.
Oh and yeah... as for the weed strains: The Laughing Buddha and the Big Buddha Cheese are my personal favs. You can find the Laughing Buddha at Barney's and in the Rokerij shops. The BBC I found in the Rokerij.
I heard that the Amnesia Haze is supposed to be one of the strongest strains, but as I am not a frequently smoker I didn't dare to try it yet.

I'd put Basjoe, Paradox and Club Media above Dampkring, Mellow Yellow & The Noon personally (it's Homegrown Fantasy as well Fantaseeds is the seed shop).

Make sure you visit Paradox. But a usually consistent place for high grade MJ is Grey Area. Basjoe for orange bud. Cafe 420 for their NYCD and a chill out atmosphere.
Part of the fun of 'dam is wandering around to find a good coffeeshop that is good for you because of personal reasons. For example i love Paradox because i was treated like one of the family when i walked in there. These places are good starting spots, hit them up, smoke some fine herb and get your wandering shoes on with the ACD map in your hand and find a out of the way shop.
You'll find fine smoke, dont stress it.
