Noah's Ark can be visited in Amsterdam
November 09 2008

A replica of Noah's Ark arrived in Amsterdam. It can be viewed until February 7, 2009.

A life-size giraffe will overlook the IJ river behind the Central Station for a few months.

It stands on a huge replica of Noah's Ark, which will be a temporary attraction (until Feb 7, 2009) in Amsterdam, especially made interesting for children.

The ark replica was made by Mr Johan Huibers and his son, who invested EUR 100,000 of his own money into this enterprise.

According to the website, 'This replica, being about half the size of the real Ark offers people a chance to taste a little of how it must have been on Noah’s Ark. The many life size animals in cages and the beautiful structure of the building of the Ark bring the story of Noah to life. But next to that people get a lot of information about the worldwide flood and the Ark through displays and films.'
And: 'Different Bible stories are displayed and there are fossils that are shown to confirm the flood.'

'So, if you believe the story of Noah, you'll greatly enjoy seeing it from up close! And if you're not familiar with the story or you question if it ever happened you'll probably enjoy getting a better picture and more information about this beautiful story of hope and God's enormous love for you!'.

The ark travels through the Netherlands to tell about Noah's Ark.

This 'small' ark (about 70 meter long) is just the beginning. Mr Huibers plans to build a real one, but then real size, that is sea-worthy and will have no metal screws or nails (after all, Noah didn't have these either).

Not every one appreciates the messages conveyed in the displays in the ark. For example, apparently in the ark it says that lions only ate grass before the deluge happened, people became 900 years old (Noah took 120 years to build his ark), and dinosaurs are reptiles that grew so big because they grew for 1,000 years ('in pink, purple and blue'), and the mountains and the valleys came into existence after the deluge.
And several other things that do not quite pass modern scientific criteria.

The boat is located along the IJ, about a kilometer west of the Central Station. A map is on the website (http://www.arkvannoach.com). It can be visited 6 days a week (not on Sundays).
