Ban on magic mushrooms confirmed

The ban on the sale of fresh hallucinogenic mushrooms from December 1 has been confirmed by health minister Ab Klink on Monday evening as earlier reported. The ban covers both the growing and sale of these mushrooms.
The sale of dried mushrooms is already banned.
Klink said last year he would ban the so-called magic mushrooms following a series of incidents involving tourists.

shit, of course the decision is made 1 month prior to our visit... should have figured!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the other post regarding this, fella said they phoned a shop and it would most likely not go in full effect Dec 1st but rather a few weeks later...
We arrive January 6th, if any local would be kind enough to pick up two boxes of hawaiians and hold them for our arrival, we would be forever greatful, give you 70 euro along with a several joints. My friend I'm going with was/is more excited to try the boomers instead of the weed. Sucks for him...

So-called 'magic mushrooms', mushrooms that are used as drugs, will be prohibited in the Netherlands as from December 1.
The prohibition had already been announced earlier this year, but only now all the procedures are finished to make the prohibition effective.
The prohibition is instigated by a series of serious incidents in Amsterdam, concerning (mostly young) tourists who used the mushrooms. The mushrooms work as a drug, but the effect is unpredictable. Using the mushrooms can - apparently - lead to violence, depression and suicidal behaviour. A French girl died earlier this year when, after using the mushrooms, she jumped of a high building.
The mushrooms (nicknamed 'paddo's' in Dutch) were already illegal drugs in their dried form, but fresh mushrooms can still be sold.
The ban will probably be contested in court by a lobbygroup of 'smart shops', the shops where the mushrooms are sold. They contend that hundreds of jobs will be lost, and that the number of incidents is too insignificant to warrant a prohibition. Also, it is said that only foreign tourists have caused problems, particularly in Amsterdam; mushroom usage in the rest of the country apparently does not cause many problems.
They also say that mushrooms, if used in moderation, and with the right information, are not dangerous.
Smart shops in Amsterdam have already said that they will simply switch to selling other drugs, that are not illegal, but have the same or similar effect.
The mayor of Amsterdam (Mr Job Cohen) has also spoken out against a prohibition.

I never took Magic Mushrooms in my life, although they really fascinate me. The reason I never tried is, that the Dutch system made it possible for me to get well informed in Smartshops about the effect and risk of the Shrooms. I decided for myself, that this is not a drug which I should take for several reasons.
Without this informations maybe I already had tried them.
The ban is a shame and makes me angry. Another symbol of liberty taken away from the Netherlands. Why can't adult people decide for themselves? And why do politicians always think that they have to behave like their own conservative parents?
Unfortunately this drug is not as frequently used as Cannabis, so that I do not believe that there will be enough pressure that one day we will see them again in the Smartshops.

you make an excellent point, everything i learned about shrooms i had to learn from my friends who did it, meaning dose, type, effect etc. not that i regret shrooms at all, i friggin loved em, but it would have been a more pleasurable trip if i had "official" information and knew better what to expect, peaceMaccobicco wrote:I never took Magic Mushrooms in my life, although they really fascinate me. Peyote is not going to be banned; only shrooms. You should have no trouble finding buttons at any quality smart shop. That's quite interesting. I knew buttons were grown in shops and you could buy peyote plants, but I did not know you could buy it for use.
On the downside, peyote takes about 9-10 years of growth to get a usable dose. I bought some San Pedro seeds that I planted in January, and those cacti are doing very well, but even they take a couple of years to get a usable dose.
