I know I say this all the time but it's cheap, clean, comfortable and is outside the circus that is the Red Light but still very central. Homegrown Fantasy is a few doors up and it's a stones throw from Grey Area. 2 very good shops right on your doorstep :-)

Hope that helps. Wish I'd stayed there on my 1st trip...

It's a great wee hotel, I forget the owner's name... Theo? Good laugh, that guy... we had a drink and a chat.

When I went to book I didn't have a credit card (long story, paid off, never again) ;-) so I said would a money transfer be acceptable? I got a mail back saying because I was "schottish" I was "welcome no problem no credit card needed" ... top, top, top guy!!! We gassed on about Scotland and Loch Lomond (15 minutes drive from my current location and where I grew up). I'll always point people to Cornerhouse... friendly, clean and far enough outside the Red Light Circus for it to feel like a different city

It's all down to cost and I agree with Neldo that the Corner house is a neat n' cheap hotel, however I stay here with my partner each crimble http://www.estherea.nl/ and I'd say it's at the top end of cost, it's a treat for my partner (& me) at crimble. Great munchie shop round the corner 'Apple Koeken' (yum-yum), Kadinsky round the corner as well, Grey Area just up the road/canal and it's off the main draggy bit.

Welcome to the forum.

What dates will you be in Amsterdam? I'll post you on the Whos In Town page.

Read and heed S G Collins' great site.

How not to get hit by a bike and other stuff they forgot to tell you about Amsterdam.

Enjoy

Usually on the Damrak yep, but the Damrak Hotel wasn't bad and so close to Centraal Station. I stayed there last yr with my roommate and we had the top floor room with a balcony we could walk out on, which was cool since we were 5 floors up. It also has a lift/elevator, which is a big deal for me. My luggage weighs as much as I do or more, no way am I carrying it all up stairs.

I thought it would be noisy but it wasn't at all, maybe it's because we were on the 5th floor. I did my research since my roommate had already made the reservations and we didn't want to change hotels, so I asked for a room on the top floor since they had been renovated; the bottom floors had not then but don't know about this year. Breakfast is also included in the price and I saw a winter special last time I was at the website.

I second (well fourth!) what Neldo,ECHC1, & Bang Buddie have said- The Cornerhouse gets 2 thumbs up from me. Was recommended by someone on here and I haven't looked back since! When planning a trip to Dam the first thing I do is contact Theo and find out if he can accommodate us on those selected dates, if not then I I try to work around the dates that are actually available. Clean,Comfortable and location cannot be beaten!!
