Have you ever given up smoking tobacco?

Post by rks0 »

Two and a half days since my last cigarette.
Have gone 'cold turkey' method, with just the odd Nicotinell gum. So far, so good.
Getting the odd intense craving, and seem to be experiencing a bit of a constant background niggling, but nothing that has made me crawl walls yet.
Out for a meal, and a large amount of beverages tomorrow, so that may prove challenging, but I've got it beat.

Yep for about 5 years now, I just woke up one morning and decided not to smoke ciggies ever again and I haven't done so far, I do however have the odd cigar (maybe 10 a year tops).

Good luck with the battle, as everyone says it does get easier.

About '95 (I think), it's been so long now I don't count any more and smoking hash or grass is soooooooooo much sweeter, the taste soooooo much tastier and the high sooooooooo much 'higher' for it. As Boner and everyone says, it does get a whole lot easier. Good luck, it's worth it.

Oh yes, you take the money you would have spent on baccy and buy a couple of grams instead  bom Shiva

Currently using the nicotine chewing gum quiting method.

It wasnt to i tried these that i thought anything could taste worse than cig.Im also outraged at the blackened lungs pictue on packs of baccy these days, im thinking of protesting against it, or at least to make them put a pictue of a booze ravaged liver on all booze bottles.

Fair is fair and all that.

im quit from cigarettes for about 6 years now, i was a pack a day guy for like 5 years before that. ill still bum the occassional ciggy and i buy a pack when i go on a vacation but that totals about 25 cigarettes a year. i know some people are not able to smoke just one or smoke a pack over 2-3 days and then not touch one again for months and months, but its something ive discovered works quite nicely for me. i really enjoy a wake n bake followed by a coffee and a cigarette, its a great combo first thing in the morning.

I smoked for 10 years about 15 - 30 cigarettes a day. 8 years ago I quit from one day to the other. Now I could not imagine anymore to smoke. It was extremely hard the first 6 months, and then the first two years I wanted to smoke again from time to time. But now I am clean.

I smoke about 20 a day, less than that if I'm at home and have shrub to burn (although, ironically, more as it's not filtered), but without shrubs 20 a day, easy. Tried giving up a couple years ago - lasted half a day. Ended up in the pub with some friends, that's not the place for quitters to go...

On a related note, I hate people who, when you ask them if they'd like one, say "no, I've quit" when they gave up that morning.... Noooooo - you're QUITTING, you haven't fucking quit yer sonny jim ;-)

Yeah, Twitch... My uncle has been off them for about 25 years, still wants one when somebody lights up. It's a horrible, nasty substance.

I agree. Thanks for the responses guys. I used to be a pack a day upto Wednesday, and nothing since........so far. At the moment, if someone was to ask me if I was a smoker, I'd still have to say yes. 93 hours so far, not that I'm counting.
