Baby P
Hi,
Not sure if this story has made it across the waters and around Europe...it wants to have done!!
Just wondering what peoples opinions are....sole blame on Harringey Council?
When the infant known in court only as Baby P was brought home from hospital days after his birth in March 2006, it was as a bubbly, blue-eyed boy with the first signs of curly blond hair. He was, according to those who came into contact with him, a lively child with a ready smile.
After 17 months enduring abuse of an almost unimaginable cruelty, the boy had been reduced to a nervous wreck, his hair shaved to the scalp and his body covered in bruises and scabs. Physical injuries included eight broken ribs, a broken back and the missing top of a finger, while the emotional damage was almost incalculable. Despite it all, Baby P was said to have still attempted a smile.
The jury was told that details of the intervening months, leading to the baby’s death last August, would “fill [them] with revulsion”. But even this could not prepare jurors — one of whom could not hold back tears — for one of the worst cases of sadistic brutality and sordid child neglect to come before a British court.
Baby P’s life in a council flat in Haringey, North London, began with gradual and growing neglect at the hands of his mother, who would leave him unattended for hours in his cot. The overweight woman, who had never had a full-time job and spent hours trawling the internet for pornography, split from the boy’s natural father when he was 3 months old after affairs with two men.
When the second lover moved in, Baby P’s suffering increased dramatically. The court heard that while his mother gossiped with friends in online chat rooms, her boyfriend took to beating the boy, swinging him around by the neck or legs and pinching him.
The Times has been told that the man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, forced Baby P to follow commands like a dog. At the click of a finger he would have to sit with his head bent between his legs; 20 minutes later a second click would be the signal that he could sit upright again.
A second man, Jason Owen, also subjected the boy to similar abuse. Owen, who stayed at the house for five weeks with his 15-year-old girlfriend, was found guilty with the boyfriend of causing or allowing the death of a child. The mother admitted her guilt at an earlier hearing.
Police were told that the boyfriend, a 32-year-old collector of Nazi memorabilia, wanted to “toughen him up”. Other routines included placing the baby on a stool and spinning it around until he fell off.
The authorities had first voiced concerns about possible abuse by October 2006, when a GP noticed marks on the boy. But his mother, in the first of many episodes of deception and false reassurances, insisted she had found that his skin “bruised easily”.
Two months later the GP sent the pair to the Whittington Hospital, North London, after inspecting a head injury. Insisting that her child was “a head-banger” fond of “rough and tumble play”, the mother claimed that fingermarks were merely the result of when he was caught after being lovingly held and thrown into the air.
Social services were informed and visited the flat, which was found to be dirty, untidy and smelling of urine. They learnt that it was shared with the boy’s grandmother and three dogs, including a rottweiler, but remained unaware that it also harboured a violent boyfriend. They decided to let the child stay with a family friend while police inquiries continued.
A month later, in January 2007, with no decision made on any charge against either woman, the boy was allowed back home. As he grew too old for milk and jars of baby food, Baby P scavenged bits of broken biscuits from older children and was even seen eating dirt in the garden. Detectives found that after the boyfriend moved in there was not one piece of the boy’s clothing that was not spattered with blood.
Days later — and 48 hours before his death — Baby P was taken to St Ann’s Hospital amid further concerns for his wellbeing. During an examination by Dr Sabah Al-Zayyat, a paediatrician, his mother and her friend supported the child. Despite Baby P’s repeated cries of pain, the consultant missed both his broken back and ribs.
The next day his mother was called to the social services office. She was told by police that she would not be prosecuted after consideration by the Crown Prosecution Service.
On the very same evening, back at the family home, Baby P received a fatal blow to his mouth, knocking a tooth out. After 17 months of agony, the tiny child finally succumbed. The next day he was found dead in his cot.

This is a truly sickening story. I received a text message from a friend of mine last night, revealing the names of Baby P's sick mother. A simple internet search came up with this article:
The mother of baby P, the child who was repeatedly tortured for 17 months of his short life then left to die in agony, is a damnation of Haringey council's lax procedures and Labour's legacy of incompetence and useless bureaucracy.
Tracey Connelly and Steven Barker, who live in Penhurst Road, Tottenham, and Jason Barker/Owen, of Wittersham Road, Bromley, south-east London, all appeared in court on Friday 23 November 2007.
Baby Peter was subjected to daily torture by the mother, Tracey Connelly, step father Steven Barker and lodger Jason Barker/Owen.
Even though the child's back and ribs were broken, Dr Sabah Al-Zayyat refused to examine the baby at a clinic at St Ann's Hospital because she thought the baby was "too cranky and distressed" -- the baby then endured more torture afterwards finally succumbing to a violent blow to the head and dying.
He died in a flea infested home littered with dead animals – food for a pet snake – with human excrement smeared on the walls. He had been attacked by a Rottweiler and left to lie in his own urine and faeces.
His stepfather sliced off his fingertips with a knife and wrenched off his nails with pliers, punched him in the face, pressed down on his windpipe, bit him, grabbed him by the throat, threw him into his cot and rammed a bottle into his mouth.
The post-mortem examination revealed Baby P had suffered:
• Eight broken ribs and a broken back, with another area of bleeding around the spine at neck level.
• Numerous bruises, cuts and abrasions, including a deep tear to his left ear lobe, which had been pulled away from his head.
• Severe lacerations to the top of his head, including a large gouge which could have been caused by a dog bite.
• Blackened finger- and toenails, with several nails missing; the middle finger of his right hand was without a nail and its tip was also missing, as if it had been sliced off.
• A tear to his fraenulum, the strip of skin between the middle of the upper lip and the gum, which had partially healed.
• One of his front teeth had also been knocked out and was found in his colon. He had swallowed it.

The evil mother, who showed no remorse for her actions, boasted from prison that she would be "out before Christmas for a spot of shopping" and laughed in court when details of the horrible injuries inflicted on Baby P were read out.
She also gave birth to another child in prison wherein the Haringey Social Services wanted to allow her to keep the child, thankfully the Police intervened and had the child taken into care.
Tracey Connelly wrote on her Friends Reunited profile:
"im still in london nothing has change there but i left home a few years back but am now married with 3 kids and one on the way.
i have not changed much still mad if im in the right mood would love to here from some old friends tho as i miss the good old days.
would like to know what my old mates are up to and see how are lifes have changed.
time to updated no longer with my ex husband just waiting for him to sign paper work have now met some one lovely have 4 kids 3 girls 1 boy. "
PM Gordon Brown refused to address the issue when confronted by a justifiably angry David Cameron in Parliament, instead Mr Brown just brushed the story aside and tried to change the subject.
Will there be any justice for Baby Peter?

My girlfriend actually works with adult and child social services so it's something we have been talking about alot.....
I just think it's very sad that a little boy...never actually got the chance to be a little boy.
I saw pictures of all of the accused yesterday ..made me feel even sadder.
It's about time people like this are punished...i'm not talking about prison...because as many know...prison in the UK only helps you get better at playing playstation and pool!!

That aint shit to be proud of. As sickening and truly unjustifiable as it is, i am not in favour of the death penalty. I know that this isn't one of them, but there's been mistakes made in the past, once you snuff life out and discover new evidence, it's too late. As i say, i don't consider this to be one of those cases... but you can't have one rule for one and another for two etc.BigRigRob wrote:Do ya'll have the death penalty?

The problem we have in the UK is that there are so many re-trials...so many appeals...so many crazy sentences handed out by Judges.....you'll probably find a hell of alot of people are committed for a crime they did not commit ...
You would have to be certain beyond belief that the person was guilty
I think they are going to get what is coming to them in prison anyway...their pictures have already been circulated in most of the prisons!

I find it deeply amusing that a deeply Christian country should feel it right to deny one of there their own commandments.
Thou shall not kill
Oh sorry, I must have missed the small print last time I read it, i've just noticed the * and the footnote...
*except when we decide it's ok.
Blatant Bill Hicks plagurism, but the sentiment is as true for me as it was for him.
How can you profess to be a nation under God, when you choose to openly contradict his very word. What happened to compassion? As I said, I find it extremely humorous but that's just me.

Just trying to be 'En Vogue'
This is among far too many examples of awful existence that some children have to contend with in their formative years. My sister works for a children's panel in Scotland, where they are well up against examples of utter abuse.
I have very mixed views on this. I really cant abide the thought that these vicious humans should sit out a paltry number of years where they may indeed have living conditions much better than so many others. But the desire for retribution is so high with this poor boy who never knew what a fair crack at growing up.
If opinion is high I believe a change to the law is made where a compulsory voting system would allow us to say if they should be ended for their sins. A referendum of extreme cases in this would end the debate on whether we should reinstate capital punishment.

old(ish)dog on his own path thru the undergrowth
Sorry guys, Im so riled at these vicious contemptible human beings. I strongly feel they should not gain new skills inside. I think it is impossible to sentence them to extremely limb-rippingly hazardous chain gang sort of work. Sensory deprivationally send them to a nation where physical torture is the norm? Liberal UK will never endorse such things. But to dole out as equivocal (not sure if using right word there) punishment. She is so addicted to online stuff, well no PC, no telly except highlights of prisoners and images of the dead child.
This has really bummed me out

I am not in faveour of the death penaltly, i cannot see how the government can say it is wrong to kill but ok for us to do it. Also its a easy way out, the criminals do not get a chance to truely suffer for their crime. For these disgraceful people i think we should stick them into the general prision population, no special treatment, no bullshit. Just in 'ya go. The cons will take care of them, its as good as a death penaltly anways. Just alot more drawn out and will lots more suffering. Which is exactly what those people who done this deserve.
