I understand that my hotel (Ibis) and all other hotels in Amsterdam are non-smoking. Then I read a story of someone smoking joints in their hotel room, so thats one confusing topic. Another is everything Ive heard is it is cool to smoke in the CS, but dont take it on the street. Today Im watching a travel show, and they said as long as you are a tourist behaving yourself, you can smoke on the streets. If you board the train to Paris with a bit of weed in your bags, do you get checked? Do they check at the train station, or does the train porter check passports as you cross borders? I wonder about having leftovers with me, cuz i dont want to have to throw away smoke to go to Paris. Then I am not sure where I can smoke cigarettes at all...please help my confusion.

Smoking in Hotels is not allowed anymore since a couple of months, although there still seem to be some few smoker hotels.
You can smoke in Coffeeshops everything except tobacco, that means that you should smoke your joints pure or use a tobacco replacement.
Smoking weed on the street is not allowed, although many people do it. I would stay in the CSs for smoking.

I do not know, how the French laws and controls are. In Germany they control you from time to time, when you come from The Netherlands. Therefore I prefer throwing away leftovers, rather than get busted. In Germany you can have a small "perdonal" dosis with you, but I believe if you IMPORT this dosis, you can get really problems.
It really hurts to throw away everything after each trip. But I think the consequences are not worth to risk.

It's up to the hotel if they allow smoking.

Some coffeeshops have special sections where smoking mixed spliffs (cannabis/tobacco) is allowed and some dont care about the law, just ask.
