For around 300 euros (less than the train for one person) you can rent a C-class 'Benz/Audi A-4 with unlimited mileage for a week, get around on your own, go like a bat out of hell on the Autobahn, and rock a 'Benz. Plus, not every car rental agency requires an over-23 y/o renter.

My brother an I have rented a 5-Series BMW for the week, except for our trip to the Eagle's Nest and Salzburg...For that, through Sixt, we got a MB SL-350...Nice. The BMW was $450 for the week, unlimited mileage, and the SL was $650 for the day, with 250KM included.
Very good... and extremely valid question. My answer is simply... I didn't think of it. This is my first trip to mainland Europe (I spent one week in London for work two years ago). I didn't even think of the idea of renting a car instead of taking a train until you mentioned it.

One of the plus-sides of taking the night train though... I'll be able to sleep through the night and wake up in Munich. I won't have to pay hotel that night. Another reason renting a car may not work best for me... once I get to Munich, I'm not sure how much driving I'll need to do. I'll use public transportation... or cabs... to go between hotel, Oktoberfest, and the local sights.

I think you've planted a seed though. Next time I travel to Germany... I'm definitely going to look into renting a car. A nice 7-series on the autobahn would have to be a great experience.

I appreciate the tip. Let's definitely meet up in Amsterdam. When you're there... I'll be staying at the Amsterdam Hilton.

Unreal...

Only one week left until my trip.

This last week is going to be the longest week of my life.

GameDay!

I'm off to the airport... Only one long flight stands between me and Amsterdam. :)
