Amsterdam will not enforce prohibiton of 'magic mushrooms' - sales continue
December 02 2008
The sale of 'magic mushrooms' is going on, despite the national prohibition that took effect yesterday.
The mayor of Amsterdam, Job Cohen, said yesterday that there is still a lot of unclarity about who should take the lead in the enforcement of the new law.
He said that in Amsterdam no prosecution will take place until the government has set out clear guidelines.
Cohen had previously said he does not agree with the prohibition, as it merely means the sale and production will go underground, and the authorities will lose control.
Several smartshops in Amsterdam have said they will continue to sell the magic mushrooms, for the time being.
Amsterdam has about 20 smartshops.

Magic mushrooms still sold
Magic mushrooms still sold

Dutch authorities banned the sale of fresh "magic" mushrooms on Monday, but enforcement was delayed by problems over how to police it.
The ban was the latest move by the Netherlands to tighten its famously tolerant policies on drug use, but shops in Amsterdam continued selling the hallucinogenic fungi.
"I'll sell them until they're sold out. I still have a few and I think that by tomorrow I'll be sold out," said Meile Schot, from the Innerspace shop in the city.
Dutch media said Amsterdam mayor Job Cohen, the police and the public prosecution office had agreed not to enforce the ban at present. A spokesman for Amsterdam council said it was seeking details from the government about how to police the ban.
"Amsterdam is at the moment not enforcing the ban, which does not mean it is not forbidden," the spokesman said. He could not say when the ban would be put into practice.
Hectic trading was reported over the weekend before the ban at magic mushroom-selling stores, known as "Smart Shops", Amsterdam newspaper Het Parool said. "There are records being broken in the sale and the use," Hans van den Hurk from wholesaler Conscious in Aalsmeer was quoted as saying by the paper.
Under the new measure, the production or sale of fresh magic mushrooms can lead to a maximum jail sentence of four years. Selling dried magic mushrooms is already illegal, punishable by up to eight years.
The Dutch government first proposed the ban on fresh magic mushrooms in April, citing the dangerous behavioural effects following the death of a French teenager who jumped from an Amsterdam bridge in 2007.
A challenge to the ban was rejected by a court in the Hague last Friday, allowing for it come into effect on Monday.

If the mayor says he wont enforce a ban on magic mushrooms until he receives clear guidelines from Interior Minister Guusje ter Horst . . .
like everyone says how long can this current situation hold?
are shops allowed to restock the magic mushrooms with the current situation...
ahh i've got 4 weeks, which i know, there is a slim to none chance they will still be around.
take ur sweet ass time with the clear guidelines..

I was watching the news around about Dec 1, and though it was in Dutch and mostly Greek to me, they showed video of farmers dumping their stock into mulchers, composts heaps, etc. So at least some farmers are ditching their operations and the supply is going to be limited, at least for the time being. So whether stores will be restocking has more doubt from this evidence. Interesting, the newscaster lady bought some shrooms in the store on Dec 1. She couldn't get a receipt since it wasn't an official transaction (this was spoken in English). Wonder what she did with them.
I'd still go and ask, dried mushies have been banned for years but I've heard off lots of differant people that they were always still for sale just under the counter.onelovemarley wrote:If the mayor says he wont enforce a ban on magic mushrooms until he receives clear guidelines from Interior Minister Guusje ter Horst . . .

Have any shops been closed yet???
If so, which ones??
I suppose if your really wanting to trip in amsterdam (I know how good it is, tripping and smoking an infinite supply of weed) and don't want to ask in smartshops you could always take afew blotter tabs of LSD with you. They arnt hard to hide and ure very very unlikely to get caught with 1 or 2 half cm paper squares.
an acid/LSD trip is very different from a mushroom trip...
yes some parts are similar, but more or less they are very different.
mushrooms can be for almost anyone... acid is not for anyone to just try out....
i would say you need a little experience "tripping" before indulging into acid.... and you need to be able to withstand a longer trip... that isnt as controllable.

' Smoke em if you got em '
Acid isnt too hard to get ahold of its just real acid.
First time i took acid which was in august i stupidly took it with 15mg of 2c-b and 2 pills. Stupid too mix all those drugs together especially seeing as id never had acid or 2c-b in my life.. but in all honesty it was one of the most fun, euphoric experiances of my life..
The second time i had acid was totally by accident, me and 2 friends went to london in october to go partying and see what it was like there.
We ended up at Herbal in Hackney (East london area)
We bought some pills of some guy there, Little did we know that they were cut with LSD.
When the club closed at 3 we were on the streets in a full trip, however this did not deter us as we were going to walk to the thames and see the sites on acid.
Getting completly lost we ended up in deep deep east end of london in the sketchist area u could imagine.
The 2 guys i was with had never done acid before, and one had never took hallucenagens in his life.. neither of them freaked out and we had lots and lots of fun (london on acid at night is quiet something to experiance!
Needless to say we had great fun getting lost, even though it was rather annoying and we got followed around alot by groups of people shouting shit at us and eventually got a taxi to St Pancreas and got the train home.
Sorry about the Long story
Peace
I find mushroom trips much more confusing and harder to manage than an acid trip.mushrooms can be for almost anyone... acid is not for anyone to just try out....

Now the middle of Feb 09
What exactly is the current status in Amsterdam now with regards to non-truffle shrooms?
I really can't imagine a journey to AMS without eating a box (or 9) of Hawaiians and watching the sun go down in Vondelpark...
