Amsterdam mayor to reconsider cannabis policy
05/12/2008
The 43 coffee shops which will have to close down because of a new policy are not causing limited problems, says Amsterdam council.
AMSTERDAM – Amsterdam mayor Job Cohen has announced that he will reconsider the mandatory minimum distance between cannabis-selling coffee shops and secondary schools.
Cohen recently said all coffee shops located within a 250-metre radius of a secondary school should close. His decision was in compliance with new cabinet policy.
However, the Amsterdam council - with the exception of the Christian Democrats - feels the cabinet is taking things too far. The measure would affect 43 coffee shops, while most of them cause no or only limited problems.
The mayor has promised the council that he will reconsider the issue. He says he is still awaiting a cabinet letter with additional information on the issue of cannabis-selling coffee shops.

Amsterdam mayor to reconsider cannabis policy
Re: Amsterdam mayor to reconsider cannabis policy
I was at the entire city council meeting on Thrusday. My gf was a featured speaker at the meeting. It was very clear that the mayor, the police commissioner, and all but two of the council members had no interest in this new rule. As it turns out, it is not a rule but only a suggestion. Each individual city is allowed to decide it's own distance and boundries. The two for the 250m rule are the CDA members. Their testimony consisted of saying that smoking weed is not normal but drinking a couple glasses of wine is. They are the biggest hypocrites I have ever seen. They had no logic at all with their argument. Even those two idiots admitted they did not want to close all coffeeshops which was good for me to hear. What a busy week it was with the Tribunal the first two days in Den Hague then this council meeting on Thrusday. I think I will hit the bong the rest of the weekend.Puffin13 wrote:Amsterdam mayor to reconsider cannabis policy

Thanks for your first hand input, mh! In my experiences I have found that most so-called christians are very much indeed, hypocrites. This is just another example of their hypocrisies. It is indeed good news to hear that they dont want all the coffeeshops gone. It's bad enough that they want to close down 43 of them.
I really hope that the closures dont happen. Peace n Pot.

Religion always seems a bit conservative, but thats only because you dont see the good ones, but only the bad ones who want to regulate peoples live because they think they are superior.....no real christ/muslim would tell another person what to do with their health, at least thats what I think.nehctik wrote:Im a christian (that is to say I believe in god and pray pretty regularly) but im a realist also I know im gunna sin on certain things lol Also I havent read the bible in full but to my knowlage no where does it say thou shalt not smoke weed. Very nice of him, also means that I can do what I want when I want. And no-one should tell me otherwise. Oh how far from a perfect society under God do we live...
