What is the protocol for smoking j's in hotel rooms in amsterdam. I'm only a bud smoker, so I'd rather not stay in a Smoking room as cigarette smoke is not my favorite environment to spend the week in. But will I get in trouble if I sss a few j's in my non-smoking room with the window open? Or should I just be safe and request a smoking room?

Theres no such thing as a smoking room in netherlands anymore (as far as i know) as the new law prohibits smoking in the workplace.. and people work there. However it will really depend on the hotel, if its a shithole in the RLD then they probably wont care, if its a swanky 5 star by vondelpark then i wouldnt smoke. Most hostels have a common room where you can smoke before you go up to bed so that might be an idea. Hope that helps! :D

Pretty sure it's up the the hotel if they have smoking rooms or not.

If it was me I'd go for a smoking room over a non-smoking room or better yet stop in an apartment or a houseboat.

There are quite a few that have smoking rooms that you can request. Book yourself one and if the room reeks of tobacco, get over to the closest Albert Hein and get a can of Febreeze or Lysol and spray the room good with it. Then the only smell you will have is that sweet smell of lovely herb.

open window, towel at the bottom of the door to block outgoing air, and shower cap on the fire detector, works well enough.

this is the best option, BUT only open the window half way, taht way u create a outwards draft! thus pulling the shite air from the corridor into ur room and out the window with the smoke!!!

yeah, mind you don't fall asleep with anything burning though, could be hazardous with the shower cap method.

Thanks guys!
I'll ask for a smoking room. If the hotel doesn't have one available, I'll resort to your towel under door/shower cap method.

I was in the dam last weekend and stayed at the albus grand hotel.
There was group of us and when we got there they told us NO SMOKING. All the other guys rooms didn't even have windows but mine had a door that opened onto a fire escape area. My room then turned into the unofficial "smoking room" of the trip. good times.

... I wish I was back again :(

Much Love.
