im coming to the dam in march with my girlfriend for her 18th bday.Ive been several times before with friends but this is the first time with the Mrs.So im woundering if any no's some chilled out cafes that ent so lerky at night.?I no street crime is high in the dam but what areas are more safe?Also does any one reccommend any thing to do in the dam besides smoking of course!!!

Im going straight to the bluebird when i land there to get some blue cheese !!!I was lucky enough to grab 3gs last march so fingers crossed?

Where can i find some proper danky strong bud in the dam?Idont really like the hazes , fruity ,sativa buds.Any one know?

I would be reaaly grateful if any one could avise me on these topics.

Based on April 2005 I would suggest Hindu Kush from Club Media down in De Pijp.

Seems more recent trips have suggested Sharks Breath from Grey Area.

Have a grande trip and bring back tales to tell...

Been to the Dam twice and haven't even had the courage to step onto a tram

Never been to any of the places listed and on my last trip I only went to the Sex Museum because it was round the corner from my hotel and was free admission.

Really need to get my ass into gear on my next trip and try to see a bit more.

It's Easy!

If you want to pay as you go, just get on the rear of the tram, tell the conductor where you are going, and hand over one Euro sixty (I think...).

But what I do is buy a multi-day pass. No worries about zones, just get on, get it stamped for the first use, and merely show it for subsequent trips.

Once you master the trams (and it's really not rocket surgery :-) you'll be free to roam. Hell, sometimes I just get on a tram and ride in order to chill for a while. Ride it to the end then back. Get off along the way.

You can buy both a multi-day GVB pass and your round trip train ticket from Schiphol to Central Station at the tourist information office at Schiphol. Just bear to the right slightly as you exit the arrivals area on the way to the train. The friendly people there can hook you up with one stop.

I suppose it stems from the fact that I travel alone and I don't speak Dutch.

I know I won't be the only one in this situation but I just like to be super careful and try to avoid situations which may attract unwanted attention.

I've been to the Ajax ArenA on the train on my past two visits and that was easy enough because basically you can't miss the stop and there's only one way back as well.

I would like my trips to be more like a holiday than a haze and exploring new areas is the best way to do this. I will try harder.

Anyone been to the Artis Zoo while in the Dam? That could be fun.

Yup I have been to the Zoo...I went the very first time I visited Amsterdam in 2001. It was pretty cool, I took the missus to keep her busy for a bit...they have giraffes and stuff like you would expect...and a Manatee that just loves lettuces

Its worth a visit if youre into wildlife, like visiting most Zoo's nowadays you cant help wondering if they might be a little happier else where...?

It's no problem - the conductor on the tram will be happy to speak English with you. In fact, it appears it's hard to practice Dutch there because they wish to practice their English in many cases.

Really, it's easy Easy EASY to take the tram. Like I said, get a multi-day pass (3 days = 13 Euro) and get out and see the rest of the city.

The Artis Zoo is kickass!! I try and get there as often as I can while in Amsterdam. My parents or at least one of them used to take me there every time we passed through when I was a little tyke. I used to wonder then why I only ever saw them one at a time!!!

Artis rocks! I wasn't really lookin forward to goin (my girlie wanted to go) but it was truly one of the best zoos i've been too overall. We went right when they opened in the morning and essentially had the place to ourselves for a couple hours.

The tram is also SUPER EASY..... and this is coming from a guy who has never used public transportation in an English speaking country.
