Hope it wasn't the chick with the dog.

I'll always remember my first coffeeshop experience because I'd been sick as hell for two days, spent the whole Transatlantic flight throwing up in the bathroom, and my wife was seeing our first trip to the 'Dam going to hell quickly. I took a nap for a couple hours after we got there, still felt awful, but decided to drag myself to Kadinsky, the one near the Spui tram stop, for a gram of Hawaiian Haze.

While we were there, a nice rain shower cleaned the air. And a joint of the Haze, and a nice walk, cleared up my illness. I wasn't sick another moment in a two-week trip.

the first time i went was just after the sept. 11th attacks, because those plane tickets were so damn cheap. my 2 brothers and i, plus 3 of our friends decided to go. i flew with one of my brothers and we had spent so much time researching coffeeshops, printing out maps of them, etc. that when it came time to decide, we decided to go with one that was close to Central Station. i was pretty much sold on going to Centrals, which for me, is one of my favorites still, since i love the fact they present everything in a wooden box. plus it opens at 7 AM. i've been back every year since (sometimes twice a year) and Centrals is still the first coffeeshop we hit. Now it's just a tradition.

i remember asking the gentlemen what he suggested and before he could even ask me a question, i responded with, "strong, i'm looking for something strong". he pointed to "Desert Bud", of which i purchased. he even taught me how to roll, which was very nice.

we left, dropped our bags off at the hotel and proceeded to hit more coffeeshops around our hotel. came back after a few hours and took a nap. when i woke up, the rest of our crew had arrived, and everyone wanted to go to the red light. so i started rolling a joint, so that i could smoke before we left. (at this point i was trying to smoke as much as i could). i finished the joint with my brother and it was by far one of the highest times i've ever been to this day. now, i know everyone has had those few moments when you're having trouble controlling your laughter. but as we went through the red light, i could tell my brain was having trouble computing what i was looking at and feeling, and all i could do was laugh. i laughed all up and down the red light district. one of the best feelings i've ever had!
