I open up my eyes and look at my watch, 9AM; I nearly forget I am even in Amsterdam and when I remember that I am not in the States and there is no work to go to I smile. Still adjusting to the time difference and dealing with a harsh throat from a busy first day, I make my way to the fridge and chug some water. Frank is awaking as well and I proceed to roll a Cone of Chocolope. We finish that up and we are now ready to find our English Breakfast.
Dressed for the day, we pack our daily travel bag, where we keep all our smoking paraphernalia and purchases. We head down Warmmostratt towards Dam Square and find a small Irish Bar that serves a full English. I believe the name was Saint Slater, or similar. We take a seat and wait for a while; we then realize that you need to go to the bar to place your order. I go up to the bar and order two English Breakfasts and 2 cappuccinos. Also some water for Frank and some orange juice for myself. I was a little disappointed because I didn’t get fresh OJ; he gave me a looza, but whatever I drank it. About 20 minutes later our breakfast came out: 2 eggs over easy, toast, 2 pieces of ham, 2 links of sausage, beans, fried mushrooms and tomatoes, with 2 hash browns. Breakfast was good enough and definitely hit the spot.
Our plan for the first half of the day was to head down towards the Albert Cuyp market. We proceeded to Dam Square, where we went into a small souveniour store to buy a 15 strip of stripeenkarts to ride the tram. This worked out to be exactly what we needed for the entire trip. I think it only costed about 8 euro. 2 stripenncarts are required for each zone you travel; but in Amsterdam you only travel about 1 zone wherever you go (or at least where we went) Before we got on the tram we also stocked up on some essentials: Juicy Jay rolling papers, orange and mango, double Platinum Blunt wraps, a pack of three cones, a glass piece that costed about 7 euro. Also I had 5 boxes of Dutch Master blunts that I brought with me from the states. There are 4 blunts in each box. In the states we are accustomed to smoking Dutch master blunts filled with weed. It’s funny because in Amsterdam they do not sell them; so every time I come I make sure to bring a bunch.
We jumped on the tram and within about 3-4 stops we were there at the Albert Cuyp market, took about 5 minutes. We got off the tram and saw the market right in front of us. The market was a real good time and I learned a lot from it. I always wondered why there weren’t a lot of supermarkets in Amsterdam where people buy groceries and stuff and the market answered many questions. We saw a lot of locals there, in which they were buying a number of different things. The market starts with a big Fritas stand with people buying delicious French fries. The market then continues over a stretch of about ½ mile containing many items. This is where many locals come to do their weekly shopping. The market included: clothing, shoes, fresh squeezed juices, produce, fruit, vegetables, fresh cut meats from the butcher, fish market, pocket books, accessories, souvenirs, candy, other food, and countless other flea market items. It’s an open-air market where vendors set up in the early morning and bargain their goods to buyers. We had a very good time and made some purchases throughout. The freshly squeezed juices for only 1 euro were delicious.
Another reason why we came down here is because we wanted to go to Katsu. We have heard good things about the shop but never been before. After walking around for about another hour and a half searching we decided to go into an Internet café and look it up. Great piece of advise; if your in Amsterdam and can’t find something just go to an internet café pay .50 euro and look it up on the internet. After that we were at Katsu within 10 minutes. If you enter the Albert Cup Market Katsu is two streets down on the left hand side. We entered Katsu and did not even need to look at the menu: 2 grams of Black Widow please. I have heard about this strain and was dying to try it. We packed a bowl of it to get a nice taste. It was a nice powerful punch that kind of waked you up. The bud also looked pretty crazy and unique. We rolled a spliff, smoked it up and drank some cokes; actually Frank had a Fanta. Frank is obsessed with Orange Fanta in Amsterdam, don’t ask me why…We sat in Katsu for a while, it was a cozy little shop with a good vibe. Some guy talked our ear off about politics and class status, so after awhile we said our goodbyes. We decided not to take the tram back yet and instead to walk up about 10 minutes to Mellow Yellow. It turned out to be an excellent decision.
Before we left for the trip Frank and me made a bet on the Jets and Patriots football game. The Jets won and I won the bet, so Frank had to buy me 1 gram of Blueberry at Mellow Yellow.. Frank bought a total of 5 grams of Blueberry and gave me my one gram. I was going to purchase the Pot of Gold but they were out. Instead I opted for the Blue Berry Ice hash. A little expensive at 30 euro a gram but wow was it worth it. After smoking for 2 days straight our tolerance has been lifted; but I don’t care how much you smoke: the blue berry ice will knock you on your arsh……A nice strong hit and right away you were on a new level…I drank a chocomel chilled there for awhile and then we headed back towards the tram because it was getting late..
We ate the English Breakfast, completely skipped lunch and now being around 5PM we headed back on the tram to get back to the hotel to wash up and get ready for dinner. On the way back to the hotel I took a quick hop through the RLD and then met Frank back at the apartment. I showered and then after smoking a few joints was ready for dinner. It was about 7PM and after looking over our list of restaurants we decided to go to Gouchos Restaurant. We heard they have perfect beef there, a really nice steak…With no reservation we were still able to get a table upstairs. We were only two so had no problem but if you are traveling with more then two people I would definitely advise making reservations when going out to eat in Amsterdam. It took awhile for us to finally get a server, but hey this is Europe, everything is more laid back and slow. The one thing I do appreciate in the states is the service. You can’t find excellent service like you find in America. I started the meal with a mixed salad and it was pretty tasty. Frank had a real good looking starter: melted provolone cheese with dipping bread and some other stuff as well; looked pretty good. I was going to ask to try some but he quickly ate it up. We both ordered steak, medium cooked: I ordered a center cut and I think Frank had the sirloin. The sides were vegetables and fries. I ordered French fries, which I later realized that French fries in Amsterdam means the skinny type of potatoes not the usually fritas you see everywhere on the street. Frank got the wedges, which were the fries I was accustomed too. No problem just a lesson learned. After the meal we ordered dessert. I had the Chocolate Chocolate; which was chocolate mouse with white chocolate wedges and ice cream as well, with cream. It was very good. Frank got some sort of crepe with cream and caramel, which looked good as well. The waitress called me a girly girl cause I order chocolate, I agreed saying I want that chocolate don’t care if its not a mans dessert. The restaurant was okay, it wasn’t the best steak that I ever had, Bobby Flay Steakhouse destroys Gouchos. The price was definitely up there as well. But it was a good meal and the chain of Gauchos is definitely reliable for its food. In Amsterdam I will definitely be back to Gauchos, maybe trying a different meal. Everyone was very nice and the wait not that bad for Europe Standards. Also had some good deals on wine.
After dinner we walked to the Grocery store to buy some supplies for the fridge to stock up on for the apartment. We got there a little past 8PM and the store was just closing. We will have to go back tomorrow. We went back to the apartment for a bit after a stroll through the RLD. Smoked a couple of J’s and decided to head towards the Bluebird to spend the rest of the night. The Bluebird is real chill and one of my favorite shops. There’s a little bench outside. You enter the shop into a small foyer with a little seat, and then a staircase to your immediate left. Up the stairs you go and once on top : to your right is the enclosed smoking room, to your left is the budtender, and straight ahead is the bar with some seats. I ordered a hot chocolate, which was the best I had in the Dam. I must have had about 4 of these in the Bluebird throughout my trip. We also picked up 2 grams of Blue Berry Cheese… We sat down and rolled up. I loved the cheese a nice mellow smoke that was very relaxing and easy on the throat, especially for cheese. For some reason Frank didn’t take a liking to the cheese and caused his bug out in the next few hours.
We met two nice girls that went to the university who told us that they had been to the Bluebird every night for the past 5 months. That was pretty shocking, but coool. We chilled there for a while and then Pink Floyd’s “Darkside of The Moon” kicked on. I was loving it, grooving with the chicks listening to darkside, smoking my cheese and some chcocolope as well… But Frank wasn’t having it. Not even halfway in to Dark Side of the Moon Frank had to get out of there. Understanding those moments of panic, I completely understood and followed Frank’s lead to leave. Getting up and leaving is always a process, feels like it takes eternity. Putting on your jacket, carry bag, gloves, hat, travel wallet, zipping up: forever….Before going back to the apartment we stopped at the GreenPlace and picked up some LA CON, chcocolope, trainwreck, and g-13. Green Place is also very chill, with a large smoke room in the back, leather seats, flat screen TV playing dance music; we have been here before..
Back at the apartment it is about 12:30 AM. We rolled two blunts. One of Martian Mean Green and the other with LA CON..Frank also rolled up a gram each of G-13 and trainwreck…Frank ate some truffles that he bought earlier that were suppose to be trippy but had no apparent affect on Frank…Later on we found out your suppose to eat them on a complete empty stomach but we were eating and snacking all the time….Tonight it was time for “Fear and Loathing” A classic Amsterdam trip movie and a must see every time you are in the DAM. We finished our smoke watched some Entourage, then merry Sinterclause Frank- see ya in the morning…Ended the night passing out to cartoon Disney show Tales Spin, while smoking a bowl of the Blue Berry Ice……………
