Jon must be coming home for the holidays. He should receive a welcome befitting a true American patriot.

sorry, but being a patroit for a specific country is dump in my eyes. you should be a human being who is proud of being what he is. someone who doesnt do a harm to others...and thats what john is, a super friendly, a true smoker and someone you can trust. I dont know if he is an american patriot, but I know he is one of the best guys I have meat in this busines so far.

You know, Shady, when I wrote that, I was being ironic. I'll help you with that actual definition, since there are several definitions, and because this obviously flew completely over your head. It is the third definition of "irony" in Webster's:

"a combination of circumstances or a result that is the opposite of what is, or might be, expected or considered appropriate."

If I have a real political statement to make, you'll know it, hoss, because it damn sure won't be one sentence.

In the UK, that is not Irony, that is Sarcasm:

sar·casm (sär'kāz'əm) Pronunciation Key
n.

1. A cutting, often ironic remark intended to wound.
2. A form of wit that is marked by the use of sarcastic language and is intended to make its victim the butt of contempt or ridicule.
3. The use of sarcasm. See Synonyms at wit1.

So which, in your considered opinion, SoulRider, was I attempting to do? Was I attempting to wound, or was I attempting to make someone the victim or butt of contempt or ridicule?

I need further explanation from you, sir, before understanding my intent.

(THAT is sarcasm, but don't take it personally, I'm just offering the clear-and-present example!)

I think it's important to remember that we have people on ACD from many different countries. English is not the main language for some.
We're here to help each other not talk down to others. Right? Peace n Love.

Obviously, I knew Shady and I weren't on the same page and were having a bit of cultural criss-cross, which undoubtedly is going to happen, and is one of the beauties of a forum like this, in my opinion. I might have sounded a little harsh (and apologies to Shady, if so), but we're not virtually choking each other or anything, as noted in posts subsequent to the one you cite, Puffin. Peace.
