Odd response to Corner House reservation request

Or maybe not, given the bit I've learned about businesses in the Dam.

Sent my reservation request to the Corner House via their website. Requested to reserve a single room for the first full week in October, 7 nights. I received this very polite reply:

"Dear you are welcome this dates
But contact my the month August
Regards.
The Cornerhouse"

Here in America, one can book a hotel that far in advance, even at small bed & breakfast joints. I'd like to book my room NOW, however this is perhaps a good time to learn what's different between Amsterdam and America.

I'll keep an eye on their website and when they have the 2009 availability calendar up, I may try again. (They still have the old 2008 calendar posted.)

Yeah, when I went to ask them about dates in September I was told to contact them closer to my planned dates. I like to know I have a room though, so greenhouse effect it was. Now at least I don't have to share a bathroom with the whole hotel.

+1 on knowing that you have a room. I like knowing that, too, especially before I pull the trigger on the plane ticket. Looks like it's the Greenhouse effect for me, too. Thanks for the reference!

i too agree that you should be able to make any reservation at any time . that is the point of a reservation.

any hotel who chooses to ignore new customers like that deserve to have there customers look elsewhere.. i too would have booked another hotel after recieving that response.. as polite as it was .

what is your other option.. to wait until it may be too late and your out of luck.

if you dont choose the greenhouse effect, there are many other hotels that most likely book well in advance.

your other option is to wait.. and waiting sucks

I emailed them from their site to check availability for March...

I'm still waiting to hear anything back from them... :?

I guess I'll just have to pass my business on to someone who responds to their emails (and clearly wants the money!)

I thought, after reading a few positive reviews of the place, that I'd give them a try, but if they can't be arsed to reply to a simple email then sod it. I'll just book again at the Vijaya - stayed there more than once with no incident...

I've read that they just changed ownership on January 1. They may be going through a transition phase and the easiest way to deal is to put off bookings and hope the customers contact them again after things have smoothed out. I'm only theorizing.

... see it's funny 'cause the guy that runs the place, his name is Theo.

Their performance so far earns them "the benefit of a doubt" in my book.

Let's see,
chuck.

I can appreciate a business being in flux, but I like to plan ahead, get the plane and the hotel booked in, which then allows me to concentrate on learning all I can about the many, many, many things the Dam has to offer.

I'm booked in at the Greenhouse Effect, my flight is a direct one from Detroit to Amsterdam, and now that the work of planning the trip is over, I can turn to the fun part....researching history, culture, architecture, museums, and wait.....there was one other thing......gotta remember :?: ......RIGHT, got it. The Coffeeshops.

which room or apt. do you have at the greenhouse effect? I did have the lounge suite for Sept. but since I moved my dates up it wasn't available. They were able to put me in one of their apts. it's called bling bling. I guess they got more apt rooms since this one is not on their website. Very nice staff as they answered all my questions via email promptly and courteously.
