i will be taking my first trip to amsterdam in the fall, my tickets are all booked and i have a hotel reservation for the first two nights im gonna just search for a hostel after that. im planning on staying in and around town for about 3 weeks, can anybody help me estimate how much spending money im gonna need? (lots of smoking and drinking included please )

with lots of smoking and drinking I'd go for 150 -200 euro a day. So 3150- 4200 euro for 3 weeks and with the wonderful exchange rate your talking 4725- 6300 US dollars. Thats what I would plan, if I were you, and thats just the spending money. However others say that they can spend around 100 euro a day and be okay. But you said lots of smoking and drinking, so I would think 100 euro would not be enough.

I would recommend you the Flying Pig Hostel, they are very very cheap but still clean and the people working there are very friendly. there is one in the centre, opposite to the Blues Brothers coffeeshop (which has a nice vibe and usually some good strains on the menu )

Was looking for kermit waving his arms around and ran into this one. I liked it better.

I too would suggest the flying pig hostels, thier cheap clean and the staff are very friendly also have some of the cheapest beer in town.

There are 3 in all The downtown, the uptown and the beach. The downtown is the one almost directly opposite the blues brothers.
All flying pig hostels have smoking rooms which you can smoke tobacco and cannibas in, there is a free self serve breakfast which consists toast croisants cearal and hard boiled eggs.
