The Amsterdam area.

You're overthinking it. Browse here leisurely before you go. Print out the ACD map. Enter Mokum. Begin your enjoyment.

Cheers.

I agree with Pala.
If your not going till summer I would suggest you read, then read some more, and then read again.

Yeah, it is a bit overwhelming at first. Here's what I've been doing:

-Go through some of the reviews to see what type of shops you might like in terms of offering, atmosphere, and overall vibe. I've found these reviews to contain a lot of good information.

-See where you're going to be staying, and hunt around the general area of that spot for some convenient shops.

-Don't overplan. I've got a few shops on the list, but I'm also looking forward to just hitting the streets and seeing what shops my feet take me to.

-Ask questions with more specific information in mind like I did here. I got a great response seeking out a particular type of shop.

Have fun!

Go to the 'Travelogues' Trip Report section and make up your own mind from the experiences you read. There are more coffeeshops than you can possibly visit in Amsterdam. Take it easy. Check out The Green Place, El Guapo and Dampkring.
