we dont use the c-word in the states often because the c-word is to women what the n-word is to african-americans. Its wrong, offensive and derogatory! If you really want to piss a women off and possibly lose a testicle or two, call her a c-word or in fact sometimes just useing the c-word in front of a women is grounds for such a reaction. I perfer to call them C U Next TuesdayS

To Paraphrase Tim Minchin:
The phrase C U Next Tuesday is used so often to describe cunt that it is a terrible disguise. In fact it it used so often that C U next Tuesday means cunt more than cunt means cunt.
Different people have different sensibilities, but at the end of the day, a word is only offensive if you think it is offensive. If you take offense at the use of a word, surely that is your problem and not mine?

If I deem a word inoffensive, then why would I not use it? If I am not shocked by words, and do not become worried by the use of expletives.

To paraphrase Tim Minchin again:
Vagina is Latin for scabard

It is the context in which a word is used which is offensive, not the word itself. an inoffensive word like finger becomes an offesnsive word when used in the context of the following statement:

I want to finger your mum.
Even if you changed it to the more vulgar:

I want finger your mums cunt

The offensive word in the sentence is finger. So people must stop saying the word finger because it can be used offensively?

Words themselves are harmless, it is the intent behind them that is offensive, or not.

There is a huge double standard here!

I have been in all female places (i.e. went to girlfriend's house for booty call and her friends are over..... :( Jesus, just try to get rid of a whole "hen club" in a hurry) and they are all doing really raunchy talk (Sailors and hookers would cringe at the stuff), BUT.... I say the word cunt....AND the whole room goes silent and evil stares come my way!!!!

My view is the word cunt is fair game!

Also, SRH_Spaded, your physical threat to males, for calling a woman a cunt is a joke. You only call a person a cunt if they deserve to be called a cunt!!!

Saying "C U Next Tuesday", while funny, is still calling someone or something a cunt. I prefer to be direct, so, rather than use "C U Next Tuesday", just say cunt!

i love saying cunt.

it has a wonderfully crisp, hard sound. it sounds just right for a swear word.

"CUNNNNNnnn - T"

i guess its just like fuck and shit. they are tried tested (and enjoyed) words, that are good, they have lasted in the english language since saxon times. nice short, crisp, singular words.

so.... what was this thread about again?

always found it to be a word that is spat as opposed to said. a top way to expend anger or tension. better that 2 solpadeine in a health spa. i don't make a point of trying to offend, but if one word can do it to some people, great. you're there to be shot at and it's less taxing on the grey matter for me as they'd most likely be the kind of person i'd enjoy slagging. [/quote]

if i use the word cunt, it is not meant as any offense to women. I am quite a fan of the female reproductive organs. If i call someone a cunt they either deserved it, or are a very good friend of mine. If someone finds it offensive i will not call them it, but i may very well use it in conversation as it is, imo, a damn fun word to say.

I was recently over in Ann Habour ( sp?) USA. I heard words such as faggot being used regulary. This is an offensive word to gays. So why still use it? If someone is to take a stand against one word because its offensive to birds, then surely they would have to cut all words out their vocab which could be offensive to people. I never liked the word sausage, i think it is vulger and connotes sexual images. So would everyone please stop using the word sausage, Bangers and mash is here by only to be refered to as ' Pork insides wrapped in a silconly wrapper... and mash.'

I will always take people into consideration and try not use words which may offend them. But i dont see it as something i should do, its something i choose to do because i like people to feel at ease.

ATM i am very kaned after a hard week, so i doubt this makes sense. I shall re-read it once i have calmed down a bit.

Peace.

So in America its ok to call someone a faggot but not a cunt. Thats ridiculous... "faggot" is normally used to describe someone gay, so its homophobia and liely to offend wheras "cunt" is just a general way of letting someone know you dont like em.
