Amsterdam Pub Guide

Post by drayman86 »

Next to coffeeshops and museums, I'm looking forward to visiting some pubs for great beers. Came across a great pub guide HERE.

I'll vouch for Gollem. Though I've only been to the one in De Pijp.

Thanks, geoffk. There's a dizzying array of pubs in the Dam, no? The Brown Bars are more my speed and taste, though I'll just let the bike take me where it may.

Yeah I like the brown cafes as well. Gollem is probably my favorite though. I used to like the wiet bier that Greenplace Centrum had.

and if you hired a bike, you could head east to Brouwerij 't IJ. Haven't been, it's on my to-visit list.

Thanks geoffk; great suggestion as always. I really dig small breweries, and this one just made the "definite" list.

HERE'S my "home" brewery.

Larry Bell brews fine beer, however Michigan Brewing Company is a tad closer to home and I like the vibe at MBC better.

What's the typical policy on smoking spliifs/buds in pubs? Allowed? Varies by pub?

I found a little brewery by accident one time. I wanted to see a windmill while in Holland, so we made our way to Molen De Gooyer. It is in the north-east corner of the Plantage part of town. Little did I know was that it is also a brewery, I tried one of their beers and loved it, yet can't remember what it was called.

How about Brouwerij 't IJ? It's in that neck of the woods, at least I thought it was.

It is, the brewery (het Ij) is underneath the windmill (Molen De Gooyer).

The Nes cafe have/had the Zatte (8 or 9%) a while back, 2 of those and a joint of their NYCD had me close to throwing a whitey!

ill vouch for cafe gollem too. ive only been to the more central one.

great bar, great service, the barman really cared and talked us through different types.

the Kwak

the 'kwak' is a must try for novelty value, if nothing else. it comes in a mini yard of ale glass, meaning you have to down the end of it.

strong taste, strong alcohol content and strong hangover.
