Try citymundo they have places that smoking is allowed, the damage deposit is refundable and as long as you dont cause any damage there shouldn't be a problem.

Understand if this is a private residence for rental, how are they gonna cover the costs of some one trashing the place. Hotels have insurance for this stuff.

I did send them an enquiry in regards of some place, smoking allowed and all , just waiting for them to reply and crossing my fingers!!
geoffk... that is exactly why they should take a deposit.. and inspect the place before you leave !!! plus we are adults here and i guess they should at least consider an age limit or something if they are too worried!!!

citymundo has some great smoking apartments... and they are very good about what they do.. i would recommend them to anyone. i had no problems with any deposit or anything like it with the apartment i stayed at. you do have to provide them with a copy of a valid passport though. i suppose they could use this to hold you responsible.. not sure.
and as far as adults.. adults still trash shit left right and centre. i wouldnt trust some random vacationer to stay in my apartment in amsterdam without a deposit.. fuck knows what can happen in amsterdam.

I am praying citymundo will reply to my email soon.. they are by far the ones i found to be appropriate and covering all the things i need for an enjoyable trip. I only trust them because i found many people here agreeing that they are trustworthy... so i have you all to thank for that!
The fact that adults can mess up too is obvious i agree but it just got so frustrating .. because not everyone is the same, meanwhile i dont really mind paying the refundable deposit if the option was there!
its my mom's birthday in march! and i dont want to let her down, so i guess the hunt is still up *_*

citymundo will hook you up...as boner, geoffk and cheese stated.
the check-in/out process is basically a brief walk-thru. i don't remember paying a deposit when i rented with them, i thought the initial deposit turned into part of the rent but i could be mistaken there.
on your initial point though you are right the apartments are seemingly more and more non-smoking. we settled on a place that allows smoking on the outdoor patio/terrace areas.

See what i mean ??!! it wasent like that last year! Thank you... i dont feel crazy now that someone noticed along...
they got me thinkin at a point as if it was some sort of new Amsterdam policy or something :X lol
i am still hoping for citymundo to be that life saver!!!
got someone who can rent me a cute studio on prinsengracht canal but its pretty small... for 3 people

its my only drawback... if i was goin alone i would've taken it; the landlord is cool.. he didnt take any deposit from me.. smoking allowed plus he didnt request any upfront payment till i arrived! i always stayed there... but i cant now sadly ;(

Try Amsterdamescape, and Greenhouse effect.
Both have apartments tailored for smokers.

Thanks Rks for trying to help... I'm affraid i contacted escape a few days ago but they told me they were fully booked!!! i was so looking forward to find a place with them for this trip... But oh well!!!
i dont know about green house... all the reviews i read stated *steep stairs* and my people dont fancy having to climb them... if only i was goin alone!
i might settle for a place where smoking is allowed in a garden/balcony or even patio... its just really annoying because the weather isnt that great on march and rainyyy... >_<

Have you looked for a houseboat? I dont know what your budget is but no killer stairs, some are smoker friendly or they have little decks that you can smoke on, citymundo have some and
http://www.houseboathotel.nl/ have a few as well.

Hmmm nice link Boner, i didnt come across this one, i will check it now.
I am so surprised that city mundo never got back to me.. they didnt reply to my email... too bad they had a good
apartment
i found a few house boats but the only bad part would be the locations..
i was looking for something a bit more central or closer to the city center.. and they allow smoking on the decks only..

I remember when I contacted City Mundo first, they got back to me pretty quick. When I wanted to confirm my reservation, prior to leaving, it took them a while (2 weeks or so) to get back to me. Did you try calling them? +31(0)20 4705 705
