What's good board?
Brand new here, did alot of browsing of various threads and really have a much better idea of what spots I wanna visit and things I'd like to see and do. I just have some questions for the more experienced visitors just so I can gauge some opinions from the vets of Amsterdam.
I'm a 28 year old dude from Brooklyn, looking to spend wisely but still enjoy myself (ball on a budget!) and will be traveling solo. I've looked over various hostels and hotels and don't know which would be a better choice. On one hand, I really don't like the idea of sleeping in a room with strangers and having to share toilets and showers with people but on the other, I've heard if you travel solo, it's the way to go as it's easier to meet a cast of characters from all walks of life to chill with. So basically, would you recommend finding a cheap, small private hotel room or winging it in the Flying Pig or one of the other dirt cheap youth hostels?
Also, I'm usually mainly a blunt smoker. I know the new tobacco laws have affected people from sparking up L's in the shops unless they have a private smoking room but is it frowned upon to smoke a blunt in a shop that would allow it? I'm really not a fan of J's, pipes & bongs and would still like to puff an occasional L when I'm out there. I will make an effort though to smoke the real premo shit in papers/pipes so I can really enjoy the flavor minus the harsh, tobacco leaf taste.
If anyone would like to meet up when I'm out there that be cool, just as long as you got your shit together we could defintely chill. I'm 28, from BK, chilled out, brutally honest, into Hip Hop/reggae/reggaeton, sports, sexy females and smoking greenery.
I'll be swinging through April 18th-22nd and know there HAS to be a pothead in town for 4/20.

Thanks for the reply.
I've read about the smoking sections so that sounds cool. I was worried about finding Dutches too but I figure I'll just bring a bunch with me, along of course with my trusty grinder. I'll use them for the more basic buds like Blueberry or White Widow and save the real good shit (Cheese, Mako Haze, Chocolope, etc.) for the bongs & joints. I just need to practice my J rolling as well as learning how to use a vaporizer.
Amazing what growing up in a big city surrounded by blunt smokers does to a person, lol. I've been smoking for over 10 years now and still don't really know how to twist perfect J's.

Just FYI I wouldn't bring your grinder unless it's either brand new or has been seriously cleaned.

I was planning on cleaning it before I left.
Did you bring this up because of having a fresh grinder free of any leftover bud I smoked back home still in it or due to any trouble one could get into at the airport due to the residue in a used grinder?
I was actually curious as to if one could bring grinders, blunts, papers, etc. through customs with no problems.

It is because of the residue left on the grinder that I would worry.
Like Kingdoc said, you can get all that stuff in Amsterdam, usually cheaper than in the states too.
As for blunts/papers you can get a TON of papers over there, but if you've got a favorite brand of blunt (Dutches in your case) you can bring over a few packs.
A friend of mine brought like 30 of those blunt wraps (skins without the guts) with her over to A-dam and didn't have any problems.

Thanks for the info.
In that case, I'll pick up a nice grinder when I'm already there.

On my trip in September of 2007 I discovered a little shop at 137 Brouwersgracht. They sold pre-rolled blunts. No guarentee that they still do, but worth checking out if you are a blunt man. If they don't sell bulnts any more, no big deal, it is still a beautiful part of town that alot of people ignore just to spend more time in the RLD.

I'm officially booked!
Made my reservations through
http://www.booking.com/ and secured a room at Greenhouse Effect.
I was a little confused, as I thought I would have to pay a portion of the price today and the remaining balance when I arrived but it seems the booking only secured the room. I'll have to pay the full balance upon arrival but whatevers clever. As long as I got a room. I'll call the hotel tomorrow to confirm my reservation just in case.
Will be arriving 4/18 and staying until 4/22.
Thanks again for everyone who helped.
You've got a member for life.

I was about to say the Pig was pretty good, clean and had a good vibe, met a lot of different but cool friendly people. The only downside for me was the noise of having other people in the room but once i got myself a travel adapter i just put my music on low and drifted off. I think the people i met, offset having to share a room. I did my last trip solo, so it was good for that.
But the attached coffeeshop will have plenty of guests relaxing with a smoke so it should be pretty easy to meet people at greenhouse effect.

Which room you have at the GHE? Just asking because I'm there the same dates as you and it will be my first trip as well. I'm staying in the apartment called bling bling it's a few blocks from the actual hotel (I was told). We'll have to get together for a smoke.

I put in a request through booking.com on the Red Man room, but when I called GHE today to confirm they said it's best to fill out the form on their website and send it to them.
So now I'm a little confused as to what purpose me reserving through booking.com served. I know someone on the board used them to book at GHE with no problems but can't find the post on here.
So, as of now, the Red Man room. Though, I now have 3 friends coming with me so we may switch to a bigger room or a different hotel altogther.
Either way, I'm down to meet for a smoke. Don't need to ask me twice.
