I was wondering about the availability of pre paid cell phones in Amsterdam. I am coming with 3 friends and we are gonna be splitting up probably quite a bit and we would like to keep in touch. So I was wondering where the best place to purchase these at?

is your existing phone tri band? if so, it'll work in Europe and you just need to do as Murphyscafe says and buy a SIM.

T Mobile sell one for 10 Euros.

I will have the Iphone with me but that does not have a sim card. Plus I dont want to pay $1.50 a minute to talk. I figured it would just be cheaper to get some throw away phones like they have in the states.

Well I dont have the Iphone yet but I was told by my friend who has one that he did not see a place for the sim card. Will just have to find out when I get it . If they do I will get a sim card while I am over there. Where would the best place to get a sim card at. I figure at the airport would be a god place to get them.

Is tri-band the same as a 3G phone?

3G is how fast it connects to a broadband network for internet usage. The Iphone is a tri-band and will work on most of the frequencies that Europe uses.

I'm in the US and I've had the original iphone and now the 3g and yes, they do have sim cards. There is a slot for it on the top of the phone, kind of a bitch to get out though.

Thx ramses. Now I just got to find a place that sells the sim cards. I would like to think the airport would have many places to pick something like that at.

Saynt; your iPhone should have come with a "tool" to remove/replace the SIM card
