Catch Up Photos September 2007 !!! (IMG heavy)

Post by SilentlyScreaming »

See this post for reasons of absence, popping in and dumping photos and running for now.

I'll try and come back to add relevant info into this post at a later point, when I find my notes from the times in Amsterdam.

Dates covered here are 21 - 24/9/2007. The 20-25(?)/4/2008 trip will now be in a new thread.

Both times were mostly great, and it was good to finally put a few faces to names...

I've checked Lemming was fine with his mug up in public, I've blurred anyone else who looked like they might want it. Though in these pictures, I'm only aware of one person from the forums being involved.

[space reserved for photos - to be uploaded soon]
[ooops. can't find the resized ones, going to have to work on first.]
wonder if there is a 'draft' thread mod for phpbb?

Amsterdam 21-24.09.07

21st April

Stix near our apartment. 1st visit I think of the trip. We have our friend Chris on the left, AlexC on the right, me hiding behind, and a random local behind:)
crap forgot to pixel faces. back shortly

Photos for now, text as I get some free time...

The two below are the scene outside the entrance to our apartment. It belonged to Hotel Amstelzicht, just down the road.

The next three are shots of the Nepalese Temple Ball and Gunpowder, both from Stix the evening we arrived. At least that was what was left by the time someone remembered a camera again.

Then we have 5 shots of a vapouriser in use over at Barneys and a fellow forumer. I forgot to bring from the apartment the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers comics, but I think a good time was still had.

Bubblegum and Amnezia Haze were purchased from Barneys. See a couple of really blurry shots below

Next we have me in Barneys and then Chris reminding me that I was supposed to pixel out his face for online versions of photos.

Alex bought some items from this stall, on the way to grabbing some food, and I think she managed to barter the price down a little on condition we told our friends about her. OK, so its a little late to meet our end of the bargain, but here is her stock and her card

We moved back to Cocos Outback Steakhouse (need to check name later), where we have Alex once more, deciding which delicacy to go for

Not related to the aforementioned grub, here is that establishment's toilet taste proudly on display.

Next we have a typical sight around the streets - someone passed out, not appearing to move at all. Eventually someone saw he was moving, and therefore not about to die probably. He makes the transition from lying down on a stone slab, to sitting up, to proudly making it to a cafe table and chair!

Finally, we have a last shot of Cocos, and a pure pre-roll of something from somewhere that Chris bought.

I'll hopefully be able to add more info when I find my notepad, but for now I'll move onto the photos for 420 in 2008.

cheers on the Barneys update. I'll edit the first post with info as people suggest it/I ever find my notebook. I have a nasty feeling its boxed up at the inlaws back in Astana.

Just a quick question, is everyone happy with that level of anonymisation? Over the two threads, I've blanked anyone's face who might want it. I could have caught someone on the streets/parks randomly from this forum, but as its al fresco, if there wasn't a street girl on one hand, and a 3' long spliff in the other, I've left faces unmasked. If anyone wants their body hidden as well/mask removed, just ask.

The flat in this thread was Hotel Amstelzicht's (see the bottom of the page). It was not part of the same building, and the hotel's WiFi only went as far as the balcony, at least on my phone's little WiFi antenna. Mulligans? Our blurred up friend in the photos did, as he is more a drinker than a smoker. Alex and I tended to be more CS based.

TBH, I'd not feel happy recommending that apartment over the one from 2008 (see sister thread to this).

Don't get me wrong, find a great online deal for this one, with it's views of the river & pretty good location, then it would be worth it.

Its just that Apartment Paul's place was on the ground floor, with a nice bloke rather than a random staff member of a hotel, and the prices were more competitive, and the range to choose from was good. Don't be put off by the front page over there, its worth digging around.

I suppose it depends on what you're looking for from the apartment...

[edit]
re-read my post - it seems a little harsh. On the price front, I'm not sure, our blurry friend sorted that out as he had stayed there before & swung a decent discount. I suppose I'd say that it is worth at least checking if any of Apartment Paul's flats would suit you any better.

Only just discovered the problems with images. Files relocated on the server, so img urls now correct again.

Whilst I'm here, anyone got any advice/preferences re photos? See the ones in this thread (obviously :) ) and over on the 2008 pics... Bearing in mind the camera can't handle low light (and repeated flashes in a CS seem bad manners, to me at least), and the macro shots involve shaky hands by me ;) More/less Amsterdam street shots/weed&hash labelled samples? I'll gladly grab a shot of menus etc during Jan 2012 trip, but some budtenders seem to frown upon it, so no promises. I'll try and remember to make time to copy across text from blog posts next time as well, just got lazy and pretty much find&replaced the html until it was bbcode, when the blog posts were just at photo draft stage.

Might as well also take the opportunity to say thanks to all the members here, without the group soup of experience, opinions and debating, I'm pretty sure a lot of our Amsterdam trips would involve less chilled times, fewer t&ts, less bang for our bucks & FBN's menus and WiT pages perfectly compliment this happy little forum.

Right need to check where else the URLs need checking, happy reading/smoking/planning/reminiscing all.

Meant to say, been mostly absent from a lot of online non-work stuff as even though back in the UK as we've just had a son :)
