Id say thai is a good suggestion, also the original haze, purple etc. Maybe even a kush variety. Are we talking oldest global strain or a typically dutch one?

Oldest? Surely has to be the Thai, landrace for the last however many thousands of years! Some of the hashes have been produced for centuries too.
Cheers for the suggestions guys.

Orange Bud
Silver Haze/Super Silver Haze
Sensi Star
Skunk #1/Super Skunk/Sweet Skunk
ahhh now thats a list.... drool.
im an old skool fan aswell..... id say youve missed AK47 off of that list though.
mellow yellow had one of the best strains of 2008 in the super silver haze (certAnly caused a stir on here).
White widow, orange bud are quite commonly found around and about. id be interested to know where the better batches are.
back in the day (well i mean early 2000's) we used to get WW and orange bud along with white rhino from Rasta Baby. used to be great stuff, but we dont even go in there any more.
id really like to know where does a decent skunk 1 too.

I have to second the earlier post about Super Silver Haze. De kuil/420 had amazing stuff in January. I don't recall the cost but I know I bought 5 grams.
Being an oldie myself I go back to there being only varieties such as Columbian Gold Bud, Panama Red Bud, Mexican, Black Bud, Maui, Jamaican, Afghani, Thai Stick, and of course K-Weed (bullshit ditch weed).
In the 70s-early 80s in the midwest, it was mostly gold bud, or mexican, and occasionally one of the skunky afghans, or one of the other named above would show up as a treat.
Mid 80s - 2000....more variety, most of it didnt make it to the central US.
Read about it in High Times a lot though. Maybe twice a year some nice stuff would show up.
In the last few years Ive found the whole new world of weed (and people made fun of me for naming a strain I made Grape Jelly) Most of this is due to my son introducing me to the college market that I used to have access to, and more domestically grown by boutique growers. Ande of course now Ive had the honor of spending 5 days in the Dam.
Sorry to go so far astray, I often get nostalgic for the old weed days, though the new days of weed bring so much more power to the table.
Great topic!
