I had one with me most times & i didnt get any hassle. Because i spend a lot of time wandering round checking out architecture and coffee shops obviously, it's just handy to carry a drink, map, & a jacket in case the weather turns shit.

Cant stand having my pockets bulging with random stuff & having to dig through it for 5 mins to find what im after.

you wont stand out, loads of locals wander round with backpacks too

yeh but in USA fanny means bum not like what it means here in uk. So a fanny pack or bum bag are both equally wrong

I'm not 80's enough for one of those

On my last trip I made an effort not to stand out as a tourist, but failed miserably. I wonder what makes you stand out? I voted no for a backpack, but it would be useful to carry a bong. I lost 3 bongs on my last trip :(

Always carry a bag with the important items in. I however carry my wallet and passport on my person. Just in case the worst would happen.

I voted no purely because i'd forget it somewhere lol When I was in Greenhouse Centrum a couple yrs ago we walked out and left all our shopping under the table, I only noticed when one of the ladies working in the shop was running up the street after us with our bags in her hand
