just thought id share this, see what yall think abt it, peace.

The International Narcotics Control Board 2008 Report contains some juicy statistical nuggets, such as the U.S. produces 4,700 tons of marijuana per year, compared to Mexico's 7,400 and Canada's 3,500. The report estimates that 25 million Americans smoked pot in 2007.

Here are some more nuggets:

• 22% of the world's marijuana (8,900 tons) is produced in Africa. The leading producers are South Africa, Nigeria and Morocco.

• Morocco is the world's leading producer of cannabis resin (hash).

• The four leading countries that export marijuana to the U.S. are Canada, Colombia, Jamaica and Mexico.

• THC potency in the U.S. was 8.77% in 2006, compared to 4.5 in 1996.

• 25% of the world's marijuana (10,000 tons) is produced in South America. The leading producer is Paraguay (5,900 tons).

• The highest rate of marijuana use in South America is in Chile.

• India and Nepal are both large producers of hash.

• Cannabis is widely use and cultivated in Sri Lanka.

• Afghanistan is a large producer of cannabis.

• Cannabis grows wild in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

• Cannabis is cultivated in Albania, Montenegro, Muldova, Serbia, Macedonia and Ukraine.

• The highest rates of marijuana use in Europe are in Denmark, France, Italy, the U.K., the Czech Republic, Spain and Ireland.

• The lowest rates of marijuana use in Europe are in Bulgaria, Malta, Romania, Greece, Norway, Sweden and Cyprus.

• The Netherlands is not mentioned in the report.

• Marijuana use in the U.K. has stabilized or declined "at a fairly high level."

• Australia is the leading producer of cannabis in Oceania, followed by Micronesia, New Zealand and Papau New Guinea

• Back in the U.S., psilocybin mushrooms are the most widely used hallucinogen.

There's some interesting facts there.

I'm curious about the low percentage of THC 8% in American cannabis. a lot of the best coffeeshop weed is over 20%.

Also if cannabis grows wild in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, I wonder what the law is? I mean if you go for a walk in Kazakhstan and happen to notice this strange looking plant, you pick it and take it home with you, will you be breaking a law? I wonder how the wild weed is!

As far as the THC percentage, alot of it has to do with what kind of weed was tested, and how long they let it sit in an environment where it could possible degrade. Personally i dont trust these numbers as i have no clue what kind of weed or from where they are testing, average THC swings wildy from mexican brick all the way to the finest Cheeses and Diesels etc. (just examples off top of my head). If correct it completly shatters the theory of the US Drug Czar that THC percentages have risen to 30%, which i find also to be laughable. But hey if i did have 30% THC weed it would be a one hit wonder, sounds good to me, save me some dough. peace.

I am leery of the THC percentage issue.

I think the most common way people think when they hear X% THC, they think X%, by weight. (AS that would be a rational measure. If my chocolate chip cookies were rated at 20% chocolate chips, then I would assume they mean, by weight. Although, in the cookie example a poorer, but rational measure, might be, by volume. However, the volume is subject to change by the time I het around to purchasing the cookies, so, it is a poorer measure.)

Nevertheless, I find it hard to believe that in 5 grams of dope you would have one gram of pure THC! (That would be at a 20% THC, by weight.)

I wonder if the percentage figures relate to the percent of THC as a percent of total cannabinoids and/or terpenes in the bud?

It's true, i mean surely a gram of THC would effect you more than 5 grams of dope? I have the vision of collapsing on the ground losing consciousness!

The four leading countries that export marijuana to the U.S. are Canada, Colombia, Jamaica and Mexico.
The irony is that most of the grass consumed in the US, is grown in the US. (Yet, the Yank politicians are always screaming about how they "have to secure our borders from narcotics trafficking". Under the last administration, the US Drug Czar, Walters, would go on and on about this and other goofy rants. --> In one case, (Walters calling Marc Emery, the "biggest marijuana trafficker in the world") this lead a Canadian senator to, publicly, call Wlaters an idiot!! :D )

One of the sad things is that, although there is some very good bud grown in the US, sometimes schwaggy US grown bud is labelled, by the dealers, as "BC Bud" to fetch a higher price.

my guess is that the wild stuff is cannabis ruderalis

unfortunately cannabis ruderalis has a low thc content and is not much good for smoking

I seriously wouldn't agree with this I mean i live in Malta and trust consumption is fairly moving upwards.:) I wonder how they do these statistics though
