I see every1's point here, and i am a big believer in every has there own opinion and has a right to it.
But to say stoners are escapists and losers, i think thats tottaly of the beaten track that 1. Thats stereotyping, and im not a fan of that.. not one bit..

no im not a fat loser who cant get laid, im a young attractive succesful 24 year old graduate who has a beautiful girlfriend..
People go to Amsterdam cause its a stoners paradise.. pure and simply a place we all want to go to sample to "best" strains, ina very relaxed atmoshpere in custom built smoking stores (CS).. and for the whole buzz of actually having a holiday mied in with that.
the only people who go to shag prossies from where im from, the UK. is piss heads and stag do's..... is that stereotyping.. piss heads = fighting = attitude problem. so people who drink alot, are all stuck up violent football hooligans who shag prossies... nope they arent..
and i could list 100 celebs here who smoke regular who i wouldnt think are paranoid losers... (i mentioned celebs) cause there easy and everyone knows them..
i'm the same as you cheese.....i go there to chill at my own pace away from the dickheads that i see week in week out and if it wasn't for the weirdos it'd be a boring old world.....plus there's nothing like sitting ,smoking a doob watching the passing cabaret and consuming hot chocolate by the gallon....but i won't talk unless i'm spoken too or i know the person ...no matter what someone looks like they're a human being.....normals tend to bore me p.s. i'm happily married have many contacts for smoke but don't need them as i do my own for personal consumption....but then some consider bikers weirdos....and never used a hookers services in my life so where do i qualify?

Honestly, EVERY city has a certain element of criminal that will always target the unsuspecting tourist... not just Amsterdam, and not just capital cities.

In total agreement, i just disagree that all cities are there to rip off tourists. Amsterdam is no different to any other.
Barbie : if you go to amsterdam for the weed, thats righteous man. But dont generalise the entire tourist industry for the Netherlands on your personal reasoning for visiting. As you said stereotyping is wrong, and to sterotype every person who goes to amsterdam as having the same motivation, to smoke some of the best strains in the world, is not really so righteous. Remember amsterdam is recently gathering a huge amount of pace as a fashion captial, as well as the huge amount of culture that already exists there.
Im an escapist. I like escaping to my house to blaze a joint and find balance in my own thoughts. The world has gotten a lot shittier it seems, and its nice to go to a place that makes sense. Amsterdam is a place I can walk around stoned, and dream, and see a more tolerant, slightly slower paced city thrive.

One girl from Eindhoven I know has a theory about it, she basically reckons that the Dam is mainly visited by people who either can't get laid at home or can't find a dealer at home, making it a no-go for your average fun loving youth, no?

Think about it, the city is an embarrassment to a lot of Dutch people.
I love the weed, but I'd be a bit pissed off if my town was overrun with dirty old men and crack (pronounced para-ce-ta-mol) dealers

glad you had a good trip. I have always met wonderful people in Amsterdam. Then again I am a gal and it maybe different for us. Either way, I love it there for more reasons then just getting stoned.
