Just got back from the damn and it was cold but great! I tried different strains from everywhere and got the locals info on where to go and my conclusion is The Green House is number one! Alaskan Ice is my all time fav; The ISOLATOR is the strongest thing I smoked, It tried to put me to sleep but I overcame... To me it was kinda hard finding the very nice people I associate with smoking in the USA, some coffee shops just didnt feel very warm to me, although a few did. Im a loving hippie and I expected more of my kind, although the women seem to be very nice to me usually. Balu is a cool place to chill and look out the window;Smokeys is pretty cool with a lot of tourist stopping by, but their smoke is pretty good; The Old Church Coffee Shop has a real cool chick for an owner who knows her shit and will give you info on other coffee shops; The Green House is the place to try different smokes, also got some cool chicks their; PEACE and BIG LOVE to everyone who made my trip great and FUCK OFF to all the ASSHOLE shop owners-"BUSHDOCTOR near Rembrantplein"

i too have never really had very good experiences with them... its always very strange to smoke there .. although a nice view of the amstel.. and there weed has been piss poor in my opinion.. i think i tried cannasutra and g13 from them.. both sucked and unfortunately the minimum purchase was 2 grams of 1 strain.. so i couldnt just get 1 gram of each.. as they are all prebagged already.
however on my last trip i did really enjoy the mexi iceolater i got from them on my last trip.. was very very tasty and was a good high.

With you on that, I've come to the realisation that Amsterdam is full of fucking weirdos and loners. Honestly, I'm not being harsh, but everyone is in their little insular bubble, paranoid about everyone else, always trying to out-do each other with their (yawn) weed knowledge.
I enjoy a smoke, but the whole thing gets a little tedious when it turns into a dick measuring competition

Dont know about that one man, in Europe its usually a keep yourself to yourself unless talked to directly imo. I never thought a coffeeshop was unfriendly, instead of thinking their all weridos and loosers why dont you talk to them before you make your mind up about someone.
Dont judge a book by its cover and all that....

Ive been told something similar, that the rest of Holland is absolutly nothing like amsterdam.

Also, I'm English, so I know the score. I'm not into making friends in coffeeshops, my mates are with me when I'm there. Fair enough I can understand lone Americans etc wanting to talk shit with the locals and other tourists but it's not what I'm into.
Ultimately anyone who goes to Amsterdam for a smoking holiday is just hapless tourist in the eyes of most locals, there to be humoured, ripped off etc, JUST LIKE ANY OTHER CAPITAL CITY.

I dont think you have to be English to know the score, but it sure helps!
I disagree with you man, not all capital cities are there to rip tourists off. Theres a difference between encouraging a tourist to part with his hard earned and ripping him off for his hard earned.
I am English, and i chat to locals every chance i get. I chat to everyone, its nice to discuss things with people, find out different viewpoints to your own and widen your horizons. I go with my mates, but that dosnt mean im not going to talk to anyone else, you could miss out on the most interesting conversation of your life.

glad we agree !!
One girl from Eindhoven I know has a theory about it, she basically reckons that the Dam is mainly visited by people who either can't get laid at home or can't find a dealer at home, making it a no-go for your average fun loving youth, no?
Think about it, the city is an embarrassment to a lot of Dutch people.
I love the weed, but I'd be a bit pissed off if my town was overrun with dirty old men and crack (pronounced para-ce-ta-mol) dealers

i never said i agreed with it, i just heard it. I havent seen enough of holland to make a judgement.
I hope most dutch are embrassed by Amsterdam, but im not about to tell people what to think of their own captial.
I always thought people visited amsterdam for the freedom of smoking weed without worry of arrest, rather than cos they cant find a dealer.

As for the whores, i cant say but each to their own i guess.

one post behind yer, Niall, bit munted and slowed down.
Of course I talk to people when I'm over there, just not on the look-out for a pal for life lol. I find the most interesting conversations I've ever had have been with interesting people who have lived real lives, not stoners*, obsessed with their own philosophies and uber paranoid conspiracy theories.
For example, when I was nursing (a loooong time ago) I used to look after some old guy who had served in both world wars, as well as working in Liverpool docks for the remainder of his working life. He used to tell me tales that would make my hair stand up. He had lived so much, seen so much, yet was completely unfazed and humbled by the whole lot. He probably never touched a drug in his life.
I've heard enough stories about the Kullu valley from over indulged, self important hippies. They mean nothing to me, they're not real life, just cliches.
Anyway peace out, very tired
*before you jump down my throat with accusations of (more) generalisations, I know loads of stoners live real lives and have interesting experiences. I just find yer average stoner to be an escapist, fearful of life and the real world. That's why cannabis is so popular to so many, because you can literally zone out of life. That's way too boring imo, tho. not that I don't do it myself, and not that I don't have massive periods of boredom in my life, I'm just trying to throw things into the mixer. Us brits are SUPPOSED to be self-depricating, right?
