Are you on the scene enough to get on the list +1 to the places that do have door men? I know the place is pretentious but I want to see what Jimmy Woo is like when I come in Juni.
Best,
~Ian
Bad artists imitate, Great artists steal..
Re: Sombrero's Amsterdam Club Guide
Studio 80 is not pretentious at all. The only places that have the door man issue is the Supperclub and Jimmy Woo, but I would only go there if a friend is DJing.YourGuru wrote:Marco wrote:Let me put in a vote for Studio 80. Anyways, being on the list at a place with a hard door policy does not guarantee entry.

Continuing this thread, although some of the early stuff is outdated.
Two places I have been to recently, that I enjoy
Chicago Social Club is above Boom Chicago on the Leidseplein: http://www.chicagosocialclub.nl/blog/
Its new, lots of pretty girls, smoking ok (everyone smokes cigarettes, so I don't think anyone cares about weed. DJs are mostly local, playing house and electro. It is usually held in a smallish room above Boom, but for bigger parties they (late) open up the big Boom Chicago theater, which has a great sound system.
Its often free, sometimes there is a charge. Door staff is generally very nice, but when the small area is full, it can be hard to get in. Always helps to roll with pretty girls in that case.
De Club Up: http://www.clubup.nl/ Korte Leidsedwarsstraat 26-1
The door is hard to find, its between some restaurants. This club is connected to the private art club called De Kring (http://www.kring.nl/). You do not need to be a member of de Kring to get in, there is a private entrance. If you want to join de Kring, its probably good to be known at Up.
Club Up does has events Thurs-Saturday. I have been to one party there, a brilliant monthly Italo Disco party. It seems to draw a very mixed gay-straight crowd, dressed a bit fab (for Amsterdam). Smoking only in the back smoking room, but weed is fine. Very friendly staff, no door attitude.
Music depends on who is playing.
Both these places are good if you are just looking for a good time, and don't care as much about seeing a big name DJ.
