Punks in the dam

Post by Clayman »

So we got our tickets and booked our hostel. We'll be in there April 3-9. Me and the lady. We're looking for some advice, maybe meet some folks.

Questions, if anyone has some time to kill and some answers:
First and foremost, we will be strangers in a strange land. Anyone local or just in town that time wanna meet up, have a smoke and hang out?

We wanna see some bands, rather than ask strangers to reccomend bands for us to see, i just would prefer to ask if anyone can link some clubs/venues we could check out, see if anyone we like is gonna be in town.

Can anyone reccomend a destination outside of the city where we could go for a good bike ride, maybe with windmills or fields. A suburban/rural area would be pretty cool.

Thanks guys. We're very excited.

Welcome to the forum.

I have posted you on the April Whos In Town page.
You can see who else may be in town during your stay.

By default I link your posting to your profile page here on ACD.

https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/profi ... le&u=30739

I can change it to a web link ( myspace, facebook, personal page )
or an email address if you want.

First timers get my S G Collins recommendation
I think a read of this will maximize your efficiency once you get there.

How not to get hit by a bike and other stuff they forgot to tell you about Amsterdam.

Haarlem is about an hour bike ride and a fantastic little town.

Enjoy

lets do it up

also :( Citizen Fish are playing while we're leaving. And Tragedy is in town the next week. I'd LOVE to see Tragedy play in europe. that'd be violent.

one more music related question, i know most of the shops have a more reggae techno and pop playlist. is there anywhere to smoke in the city that plays more aggressive music? i'm fine with techno and reggae, but if i really wanna relax at the end of the day, pop music will just bug me.

failing all that, is it rude to wear headphones in a shop while smoking (obviously not while buying)

Im into my punk rock too mate, but have never found a coffeeshop that has played any, the closest i found was a shop that played the killers ha ha.

When my mate went the mad caddies were playin at the melkweg, he said it was an awesome night!!

Theres a few rock clubs around amsterdam that might play some punk rock, think one is called the cave or something, we walked past it one afternoon and made a note to go back, but for some reason we forgot to ha ha

I was last in Amsterdam in September '07, I went into Rick's Cafe' and they played Bad Religion for about 1 1/2 hours. I was just going to pick-up and go, but when I heard BR I thought that was a nice time to hang out. I know BR is not the most aggressive band out there but when your other choice is techno.....

Call me strange but to me Iron Maiden + Slayer = happy music...
You can not
overdose on THC...

I've tried...

Great tip. both of them.
i'm writing this down, i have the kid from Suffer tattooed on my right arm! Ha, i'll no doubt be seen all over amsterdam with a bad religion patch on my jacket. 8)

and yah, some people just really enjoy faster louder music. its a brain wiring thing i'm sure.

I don't think anyone will care if you're listening to tunes you groove on in a shop.

Most A-dam I stomped around listens to euro-chill, reggae, and light techno. Good for laying back. But if your vibe is heavier, you might find a shop that's not too busy, and ask them to turn up some boogie.

Anyone ever been to the venue called Winston? Joey Cape from lagwagon is playing an acoustic set there on the 3rd. Is it a good bar?

the time has come. shortly after this sleeping pill knocks me out (i dont like to use the ambien, but i need guaranteed sleep yaknow) im gonna take a cab to ORD and begin the long and horrible trip to amsterdam. (which will be made better with a coveted space cake on the way to the plane and another sleeping pill the second i sit down on flight from our east coast to your west coast.

im finishing off all the gajna so forgive me if this post is strange. and one last taste of my beloved Pabst Blue Ribbon isnt helping.

but i digress. friday morning the sun should have long risen, but the day does not start until i step off that plane. buy a cone of fries and a pack of lucky strikes. oh 10am friday, how i long for you. im gonna go finish this PBR arnd see if i can throw it onto the neighbor roof from my fire escape.

ive got my ipod loaded with the best variety of punk, hardcore and crust and metal, folk. Its bands like Nausea, Tragedy, Kakistorcacy, Aus Rotten and Severed Head of State that really are gonna get me going on this trip. im gonno go see if i can make it to bed before the ambien completely drops me. too sad see a PBR that ill have to pour out, but no booze+pills. thats how fratboys die.

this here: this is my farewell until i come back on reporting. i leave you with a photo i took of myself a few days ago.
