Adventures in Hash

First of all sorry about the quality of the pics, im using a Mobile to take these out of convenience.

March 2009

I just want to mention first that I flew BA and upgraded to business class, as Im a bit of a nervous flyer so I thought why not make things painless and add some class! The cost was an extra £60 each way to the price of the flight.. which I think was totally no worth it, as they seats are pretty much the same (only the middle seat between Window and Aisle is kept free).. and the on board food was under-whelming. The Lounge Access is worth it tho if you pay for it seperately.. they had great sandwich/salad and bagel selection as well as a help yourself and well stocked bar.

Where I stayed:

Rembrandt hotel, Plantage

I preffered to be in a quieter area of town as I find some parts of the city too hectic. I am convinced that every cyclist in Amsterdam is out to kill or maim me in some way.. seriously, as soon as they know I am out on the streets they all seem to swarm on me like wasps.

Anyway this hotel was great, and I seemed to have the whole place pretty much to myself. I had a large double which was clean and comfortable with a balcony where I could smoke away to my hearts content.

My main objectives on my stay were to a.) Locate and purchase the finest selection of different kinds exotic hash b.) Send some home c.) Try to do at least ONE thing touristy like visit a museum.. instead of going on some mindless bender. In that vein, I mostly bought hash but threw in a few bags of weed which I will mention also.

Coffee Shops

Dampkring

I made a special journey out to this place to try some of their Rifman selection of supposedly 'additive free hash'. I went for the Malika at €14 and was a little dissapointed with the strength, but it was a pleasant enough smoke.
Place was too small to be invinting enough to smoke a spliff. They did have an amazing selection of weeds on their menu.. but not wanting to veer away from my core mission too early I soldiered on.

Bulldog 90

Seems to be a cafe upstairs and smoke room/dealer downstairs. Nice selection on the menu, went for the Kashmir. The guy selling the stuff was a complete twat - had a real attitude problem and kind of spoilt the place for me. Oh well smoked a spliff anyway and on with the journey

Willie Wortels Haarlem

Always nice to have a box menu where you can visually inspect all the weed and hash at the same time! :o

I went for the Primero at €8 per grm, and as always was a reliable choice with clean and potent body high. Stayed around long enough to notice some drink and coffee machines charging the usual rip off prices, but the place had a nice enough American Diner vibe.
The bald dealer was informative and friendly. I vowed to come back.

Rock It

Right behind the Waag, a two level shop which was quiet (it was early afternoon). Semi-interested dealer sold me a bag of pre-weighed Silver Haze for €8 which I found pleasant enough but no real lasting high.
Nice smoking area upstairs. I was the only person in the place but feel in the evening could be a lively place.

De Overkant Hortus

More of a weed bar than a coffee shop with not much seating, I was determined to visit this place having read some of their menus I saw from some earlier photos.
I ordered some Kashmir € 11 ish per gm and some Thai bud €5 per gm, wanting to compare the latter to the stuff back home (was a lot better let me tell you no seeds inside, thick bush crompressed... sigh, the rubbish we get in London  ).
The dealer was young and cool, the deal looked small to me but he let me come back behind his bar and check the scales, and so left him a tip. Very nice Indian hash, better than the Bulldog Kashmir.. if only slightly.

Greenhouse Namaste

Small place on Waterlooplein next to the Amstel. Dealer was friendly and approachable.. he let me look and smell a few varieties before I made my choice. That kind of choice makes a real difference!
He said I could use some tobacco in a joint, not wanting to use that awful tobacco substitue on the tables at the back.

I ended up going back there twice, a second dealer was also cool.
Bubblegum €10 a lovely sweet skunk which I thoroughly enjoyed, my dutch friends agreed also which is the ultimate test. The Manali Jungly Cream at €18 per grm (!!) I havent tried yet, having brought it home.
The King Hassan Polm Extreme €10.50 per grm was the highlight of the trip for me (hash wise), it was powerful and tasted very sweet, leaving a clean and satisfying taste of honey on the tongue and long and happy high in the spirit!

Barney's

I had a bit to drink before I visited this place (just after lunch) so my perspective might be a little unbalanced. Anyway, I thought it had a nice modern city bar like feel, welcoming enough to chill for a spliff and one of the tables, and another selection of tobacco substitute to choose from (yay). Dealer was young, but informative and cool. I bought a grm of Amnesia Haze for €12 which was tasty and satisfying, but could have been stronger for the price. A good example of quality haze though, at touristy prices.

Het Ballonetje

A coffeeshop visited by mainly local 'dammers. It is small inside, with coffee on the left of the bar, smoke to the right hand 'altar'. The dealer here seemed cool enough, but weighed me a small deal and I also realised on the way home he had short changed me by €1. I guess if you dont speak Dutch then you qualify for his personal tourist tax. Shame, as the smoke was not bad. I bought Lemon Haze at €11 per grm and Honey Polm at €6 per gm.

Some of the stuff I managed to get home using the DVD in packet sent priority bags:

Coffeeshop '36'

A dutch friend took me here after we had a couple beers at a Bar near Central Station (Isnt it great when you buy a beer sit down, and the barman comes up to you and says 'By the way, if you want to smoke a joint feel free)!
Colourful and Diner like in decor, we bought some Red Libanon which was a pretty solid smoke dont remember the price tho, sorry. Nice friendly girl behind the counter too.

Reefer

A nice split level place near Waterlooplein, I sat upstairs and smoked some of my own stuff as I had amassed copious little bags of stuff still to test out. Nice coffee tho!

Willie Wortels Haarlem

Had to mention this place a second time as I went back there on the morning of my flight home. I was looking to buy some nice Cheese for my dad (no not THAT kind of cheese, I bought him Gouda) and thought what the hell let me try some Blueberry Cheese as I had a couple of hours to kill. Wow! Cant rate this stuff highly enough, it was around €11 per grm and totally worth it. Taste was sublime, fruit mixed with minerals. High was full powered and long lasting. Loved it!

Well thats pretty much it! Will post more pics when I can be bothered to upload them from my phone!

I had a joint and a pipe of it last night.

Its a rich and luxurious smoke, but no stronger than the Kashmir. It is difficult to justify the price, might as well go for some Ice hash for just a few extra euros.

Well he normally buys from a dealer he knows instead of going to the coffee shops (I guess for the bulk discount)

Favourite smokes of the trip for me were King Hassan Extreme @ Greenhouse Namaste and Blueberry Cheese @ Willie Wortels!
