Dear mom,

Lost our passports last night and missed flight. Have decided not to ask for money. Looking for an apartment to squat, and jobs as hydroponic farmers. Will return when we've found ourselves.

Please send us our cat and underwear.

Love,
Dan

PMSL!!

I haven't ever been carded, surprisingly enough at the age of 41, but the passport thing is a tricky point... If the Police stop you for some reason, I believe they can ask to see your ID on the spot, and again, I have heard of tourists being shepherded off to the Police station or being fined if they have no form of ID on them - I'm sure one of the locals would be able to shed some light on this, but I think a driving license would be fine, especially if it is a photo ID as well.

If I know that I'm just going out for a late night ramble, then I'll leave my passport in my room (depending on how dodgy the hotel is, of course) but I'll carry my drivers license with me rather than risk losing my passport to some opportunist pickpocket...

Only a passport for us Yanks will do. Yes they have an ID law. You are required to carry ID at all times.

i had suggested carrying a copy and leaving the original in the hotel (non dodgy that is) for safety, does that still work out? i remember reading a copy would work until you can go get ur original to show the police

dunno if that'll work. I don't like the idea of carrying around my passport. I always carry a copy with me anyways.

The casino will not take US DL only passport for ID. If a buisness only takes a passport likely that is the police's way of thinking too. Coffeeshops will most likely take US DL, but I do not know for sure, I have never needed to show any ID outside of airport.

If yer not Dutch then technically it's a passport ya need. They can and do reject photo copies and DLs, the fines start at 50 bucks.
