Hey insular, when are you in town? Maybe I should check the "Who's In Town" site before I ask

Nice collection of links - trust me, you'll gather a hundred plus "virtual amsterdam" sites before the trip and torture yourself until you leave! At least that's what the wife and I do! This trip, besides a return visit to the het schip museum and "heavenly coffeeshop" nearby, we're planning a visit to the Eastern Docklands this time around: anybody been?

And speaking of anybody been, how 'bout those cannabis tours I've seen linked? Looks cool but at 145 euro per person for the auto tours...I mean, yow! I'd love the beach/north sea locks trip but, did I mention the 145 euro per person???

As for the tour price,at that rate {140pp}It would be cheaper to rent a car,that said we{5 of us} have booked with Ganja Tours for their walk around the Dam{39pp},I popped a question into the forum a few weeks ago and everyone said that it was well worth it.Quotes included"as stoned as I have ever been" which did it for me. Cant wait Aaaaaagh!

in The Waterfront section of the Time Out guide to Amsterdam there is a description of a walk in the eastern docklands

whilst i have plans to visit this area, as yet i have not been, however there is a "red and swoopy" bridge there which i would like to walk across

Some cRaZy ass bridges over in the Eastern Docklands! WHEN the wife and I finally move over there that's one of the neighborhoods we'll be looking at. Lots of really cool apartments, cafes, restaurants BUT...NO COFFEESHOPS IN THE EASTERN DOCKLANDS!

that's it, the lead photo on the site is the "red and swoopy" bridge, well found

Nogal Wiedes is the nearest coffeeshop to the eastern docklands that i can find, but maybe someone with local knowledge can offer something closer

it looks like it may be time to roll joints that can travel

we accidentally found the eastern dockland area by accident when looking for nogal wiedes! probably a 15 minute walk between the two.
one way might be to take tram 10 from centraal to czaar pieterstraat for nogal wiedes, it's about 3/4 of the way down the street on the right, then stroll over from there. There were some striking features in this area but be prepared for some long walks over some big bridges as it's fairly spaced out.
Remember thinking we'd like to live round there one day too! Enjoy your trip.

We may make the trek to Java Island (it has lots of 'fools' bridges) - google maps has it at 40 minutes from our apartment on foot to the base of the island. If the weather cooperates we'll make a half day of it. Figure no tougher then our Cuypstraat strolls...of course, there'll be no Katsu for us to hang out in between! Nogal Wiedes? May be worth a shot!

CodeJD...we'll keep you updated on the boat trip. We're getting close enough so I'll shoot him an email and get details figuring we'll aim for a pleasant afternoon early in the week while you guys are still around. I read some reviews of the St. Nicholas Boat club and, well...I was reluctant initially due to the lack of any sort of schedule or reservation. THEN I read that it was, like, FOUR hours long AND at night! Stories of dudes pissing their pants pretty much did it for me !

Lube...boat trip or not, we'll definitely hook up! Who knows, if tourism is down we just may get a good boat deal.

Hey Lord Fauntleroy...sounds good to us! Post when yer settled in and we'll arrange a time.

Recovering from a tooth extraction (no fun) but should be rip roaring and ready to go Sunday morning! The wife hooked me up BIG time and tracked down, like, THREE scooter rental shops!!

For around 240 euro per week we can get a nice 50cc Kymco that seats 2. No helmet, bike lanes, cruising with a hasj cig hanging from our lips...makes coffeeshop hopping a whole lot easier! Besides, it will be PERFECT for the Eastern Docklands, Het Schip, Cuypstraat and even popping over to Hill Street on the Market for morning wake & bake!

Not even counting down now, it's too close and I've got shitloads to do first!

You do know that scooters are only allowed to use bike lanes when there is no road for them to use now?

I only found out the other day that the law had changed from giving them full rights of the bike lanes, down to only giving them rights when they are no roads for them to use. Of course it seems to be ignored by most of the scooter riders, but hey, just thought I'd mention it

As a side note to something Boner brought up earlier, I spent 63 days in Amsterdam last year, and have been living here for 3.5 months, and I still have a list of must visit coffeeshops to visit:

Thats all I can think of from the top of my head, but I'm sure there are others I want to visit too that I can't initially think of.

staying down the street from Paradox i can assure you you will not be disappointed...

Twede Kamer was originally one of my favorites...very cool vide with that nice menu you find in the larger more crowded deDampkring...

i always thought the vibe in Dolphins was cool. the downstairs alone is worth a trip but the White Dolphin was just as worthy...

just found Amnesia yesterday and will definitely be back...without my wife ...seriously though if you're single...GO!

Siberie is just great...

never cared much for Noon or Rookies but that's personal...good luck and have fun!
