Newbie needs some advice

Post by vivalamata »

Hello all,
I was hoping for some advice on strains. While it is sometimes fun to be unable to move because you are so stoned, I generally prefer a fairly active, giggly, happy high. I love to be out in the world while stoned. I don't generally suffer from any paranoia so am perfectly comfortable being around other non-high folks.

So, what should I try (3 day trip) and what should I avoid. Also I have never tried space cakes, but hear that they give more of a "body high"...not sure what that means.

Any info would be appreciated!!

Take it you're going to the Dam...

There have been other threads started regarding this. I suggest you browse the forum lobby thoroughly - you probably will have all your questions answered there...

Also - let FlyByNite and Lemming know you are going and they'll put you in touch with the "who's who" and "what's what" of Amsterdam...

Good luck Kid!
... as long as it aint a cheque ;)

Thanks guys. I wish I were staying in a hotel where smoking was cool...I'm not. I love having a mellow toke before bed.

Trichome_Dense, I read other posts and see that you are a haze fan. Sounds like that is about my speed.

Im a sativa man myself. keeps me going, makes me feel good, and it does wonders for my appetite.

i love indica once the sun is down and its time to sit around. though i hate going to sleep with the munchies.

i love eating my high, way longer high. BUT strain is still a factor, the cake could be sativa or indica. i assume if they're selling the things, they know which strain is it, just ask around. theres a few spacecake threads on here to check out.

I am staying close to Mellow Yellow so that should work out quite nicely.

First off, everyone is different and reacts differently, so I would suggest trying strains you have smoked before. However, as has been suggested, ask the budtender and they can probably steer you to an appropriate variety.

That depends. I have not had a space cake from coffeeshops in a very long time. BUT, I do make my own and mine are VERY strong!!

If the shop cakes (i.e. that coffeeshops sell today) are a strong as the ones I make (or as strong as they were many years ago), then you can expect to wait about 45 minites to 90 minutes before they start kicking-in, then you will continue to climb for several hours and then you will remain high for many many hours.

If you are not used to eating cannabis AND the cakes are as strong as the ones I make, then you might not be prepared for the how wasted you will get.

I have previously used the analogy below, but I think it is apropos.
- IMHO Toking is like a bumper car ride: You can quickly determine how much you want to do and when you want to stop the ride. (and it is s pretty short ride)

- Eating cannabis is like a roller coaster ride: Once you are on, you are on for the full ride, no matter how unpleasant you may find it.

Note: I am not saying that eating cannabis will, necessarily, be unpleasant. Indeed, I greatly enjoy it. I just mention this so you know what you are getting into.

That's exactly the kind of advice I am looking for...thank you all. I especially appreciate the space cake warning. I have heard that the strength of these cakes has gone down due to the stupidity of tourists eating too much then freaking out.

I have heard that coffeeshops did that, and for precisely that reason.

I think that, when the cakes did not kick-in within 15 minutes, punters decided that they were shite and then decided to either have another piece of cake and/or have a big toking and drinking session, only to be doubly bowled over when the cakes finally kicked in.

I used to find that the spacecakes, even from the same coffee-shop were sometimes hit and miss. Maybe they did NOT mix the cannabutter uniformly throughout the cakes, so that some pieces were weaker than expected, while others were stronger than expected?

This is purely anecdotal, but I found I got way more wasted with the chocolate space cakes than with the spice cake space cakes. (Try saying "spice cake space cake", 5 times really fast... ha ha :D ).

Cannabinoids are soluable in fats and chocolate cake would contain more fats, so maybe chocolate was a better delivery mechanism? I have have made many flavours of space-cake and I got just as wasted no matter the flavour, so I think it was just a coincidence.

Have fun!
