Hotel for honeymooners?

We will be starting our honeymoon with a couple nights in Amsterdam sept 4th and 5th and I need a nice hotel in the middle of things, but not in the red light district. I would like to keep it under 175 a night. If it was just me I'd stay somewhere cheap but with my soon to be wife the place will have to be spotless at a minimum and luxurious at best. smoke-friendly or at least a balcony would be great.
Any ideas?

Rent an apartment, it'll most likely be cheaper than 175 a nite. We did that on our Amsterdam Honeymoon.

Will it be possible to rent an apartment for just friday and saturday?
I think my fiancee would prefer someplace with the amenities of a hotel (maid service, etc) which I assume won't be available with an apartment rental.

The Krasnapolsky sounds like it might have what you're after:
Clicky.
Edit: This is quite a nice one -

Not sure, I think most of them have 3 day minimums.

Probably not, ours was a private rental. Some might though.

like the other guy said. The Krasnopolsky is the place you want to stay. I stayed there for a couple nights a while back and it would be perfect for honeymooners.

Is the Krasnopolsky smoke friendly, If it is I will definitely be there for my next trip, looks like the sorta place that isn't though.

I think we're going to go with the Renaissance Amsterdam hotel. Anyone ever stay there?
Krasnapolsky is about the same price, but at least from the pictures doesn't look as nice.
Anyone know if either of these are smoke-friendly? I am thinking not.

How not to get hit by a bike and other stuff they forgot to tell you about Amsterdam.

We're staying at the Renaissance at the end of May, got it cheap from opodo. We've never stayed there before, and because it's a 5* i very doubt they're smoker friendly.

your best bet is the sofitel grand.
its beside greenhouse centrum, right outside the red light district.. but you would never know it was even close.
great hotel, amazing rooms and even better staff.
a bit pricey but worth every dollar.

you wont be disapointed

Nice hotel, but $520 for two nights is just too expensive.
I'm glad I still have some time before I need to book something, I looked at a thread where Boner posted a view from one of the houseboats and now I'm considering that as well. So far though, both houseboats I've inquired about insist on a 3 or 4 day stay. Since I will be in Amsterdam on the 6th as well (and until about 1pm on the 7th) I might consider booking for the third day if I can keep the total price under 400 euros.

The Kraz is nice although a lot of it's appeal (and price) is due to it being slap on Dam Square. Stayed there last year and the room was great, there's a sort of annexe to the main hotel though which is what we were in.
My girlfriend booked it as well as she works for NH so not sure what class of room it was.
Have stayed at the other NH on Spuistraat, the NH City Centre, not quite as good but also nice.
The Radisson SAS was pretty nice as well.

I stayed at the Die Port Van Cleve on my honeymoon and recommend it. being right behind Dam square, a 5 min walk to grey area, amnesia etc, very nice with a bar and restaurant, and im pretty sure it fits the rest of what you need. gluck and peace
