Wondering about renting a feits for the week. Staying at Greenhouse Effect; anyone familiar with available bike parking in that general area? I'll rent the typical Granny Bike, so thinking that hauling it up into the room isn't really an option.

Yeah email and ask, worse case is just make sure it's locked to something that doesn't move like a bridge or tree you'll be insured against theft so if it does go walk-about (or you just lose it) then you wont be left high & dry.

Plenty of fiet parking on the side of Hunters coffeeshop, Warmoesstraat 24. That would be the closest and safest spot to Greenhouse Effect.
It's off the street so it won't be hit, and if it's locked properly the odds of it being stolen are slim.
Parked there many times without incident.

Of course, and not seeming to be distrusting, but..... :P

Would expect a proprieter to respond that, sure, "We have nothing but the best", however I have found the information from this forum to be THE BEST single source about Amsterdam in terms of knowledge, friendly folks (yourself included, yes!) and the like.

No offense, geoffk, truly. I am SO looking forward to the Friday evening time an Van Gough museum as you suggested, for example......

Thanks for all the views and replies.

Lock, solid imovable object, chain long enough to incorporate aforementioned and still include the front wheel and frame of your bike.

If those conditions are met, you have found a parking space :)

Great suggestion, Soul Rider. I'm taking a chain AND one of those u-shaped steel rod bike lock things, too.

THIS is where I'm considering renting from. Like the fact that they have non-typical bikes that don't shout "Tourist!", although I'm certain to be taken for one none the less.

If you rent it'll have all the locks you'll need.
