Just to add i think cannabis culture goes beyond the simple act of smoking herb. Its an all embracing culture that contains those who are polor opposites to each other. It promotes a tolerant lifestyle and most importantly it emphaises love over such things as being macho etc. If someone is truely in the cannabis culture i find they usually have these attributes.

amercian v european spliffs story
i am a roach & tobacco with slim blue rizla smoker, always have been.
about 5 years ago a few of us were in dam (as usual), and we were doing the usual of hopping between shop and shop.
we were all in CS Rusland, down stairs where all the glassware is. i went upstairs with one friend to try out the volcano. 10-15 minutes later we came back down to the other guys, and i saw a middle aged guy sitting next to them. i sat down next to my mate who passed me a spliff. being quite wasted i put it straight to my mouth. i then immediatly then (jokingly) shouted at my mate:
"jon, what the fuck is this!!! you so wasted you cant even roll properly? ha ha ha, where's the roach, the weed is sticking rout out the end!! and did you even grind this stuff up? it looks like a long tampon!!"
much to my embarresment, this joint was not my friends, its was the middle aged american (hawaiian) guy, who was being nice enough to pass it around.
after much back tracking and apologising, it turned out this dude saw the funny side of it, and turned out to be a really cool guy. he was from hawaii, and was in town buying a flat. we had a good long chat about the pros and cons of both euro v american rolling and tobacco v pure. and we chatted about the grade of weed in hawaii and england.
the joint he gave us was 'red hair speical' (from rusland) i think. it was 5 years ago, but the situation is lodged in my head because of the huge foot in mouth job i did.

IMO, one problem is that the people can be way ahead of the governments on many issues, so it might not be the public at large holding back reforms on issues, but rather the inertia/intransigence/corruption of those in power and/or those who pay them.I suppose I just feel that as the knowledge of marijuana spreads, as will marijuana acceptance. And therefore more honest and realisitc marijuana laws in countries such as the US. For instance, the % of people in the US who felt that marijuana should be legalized in 1969 was somewhere near 12. Now? Around 44%. I hope that with time, and the sharing of knowledge and culture, we can reach a majority where marijuana legalization can no longer be ignored.
For example, look at gun control in the US. The majority of American people, in poll after poll, would like to see some restrictions on guns, and yet, with huge amounts of NRA funding, this issue, faces stiff political resistance.
Hence, even though the majority of current US folks favour legalisation of cannabis, actual legalisation will take some time (and considerable work on our part) before it happens.
Morocco: mix with tobacco.
Afghanistan: mix with tobacco.
Netherland: mix with tobacco.
U.K.: mix with tobacco.
Jamaica: mix with tobacco.
and then you got
Cannada, USA and south america that dont mix with tobacco.
my opinion:

I think its vaired with the Jamaicans, the guys i know from that area of the world, not all from Jamaica but St Lucia as well use a dark brown tobacco substance, they call it tobac, in their doobs. Its unroached and unfiltered as you said though man,Ash333 wrote:Beejun, my Jamaican dealer smokes pure only. Jamaican joints are unroached/filtered and pure.

I dont think the tobacco-mix thing depends on the country you live in. we usually smoke pure small sticks when 3-4 people and mix a bit tobacco into the bigger spliffs when we smoke with more people....but the usual german smoker will do 70% tobacco and 30% weed, which I cant stand.....everyone smokes to his likingsbeejun wrote:Morocco: mix with tobacco.

There are a few books already published, covering various cultures, their history, consumption techniques, traditions, etc. Of course these will vary widely and even more so with each new generation of peoples. The books I know of are:intricatethakid wrote:Has this board ever considered co-authoring a book? I mean honestly, the whole culture of marijuana has to be very accurately covered if one took the time to completely search this forum. If anything, a very good "How-To" book could be written.
Pot Culture The A-Z Guide to Stoner Language & Life
by Shirley Halperin & Steve Bloom / Forward by Tommy Chong
The Official High Times Pot Smoker's Handbook
by David Bienenstock and the editors of High Times magazine
Highlights An Illustrated History of Cannabis
by Carol Sherman & Andrew Smith with Eric Tanner
Other books about Cannabis, in general, also reveal some parts of the worldwide cannabis culture. Another one I would highly recommend, if you can find it, is:
A Marijuana Dictionary - Words, Terms, Events and Persons Relating to Cannabis.
by Ernest L Abel
There is a wealth of info in these and other cannabis books. I love reading just about anything on cannabis. What an truly awesome plant!
Peace.

I get my weed from an old jamaican and he use tobacco, and a filter. He also told me in jamaica people use the same baccy as the cigar filling sometimes as well.
IMO A joint tastes and burns better with a bit of baccy. If i smoke pure I will do a blunt.
And anyone plz tell me how can you smoke with no filter?

Back in the old country, most people smoke with tobacco. However, almost everyone will "toast" their tobacco, before mixing it with most often hash. When I go to CS's here in the Netherlands, I never see others do this, so I wonder if this is a purely Scandinavian thing?
Basically, you take a cigarette and heat it by moving it quickly back and forth, through the flame of your lighter. When you can see vapor coming from the cigarette, stop heating it and blow in the filter until no more vapor appears. Repeat this process until satisfied or until no more vapor is produced by heating/blowing in the cigarette. Be careful not to scorch the tobacco or burn the cigarette. It takes some practice, but if done right your joints will taste far superior, than had they been rolled straight from the cig.
Another way of achieving the same result, is to use a sort of bowl made of tinfoil, placing your tobacco in there, and putting a flame underneath. This makes it easier to see exactly when your tobacco is ready (should be dark brown, not black). I find that I achieve worse results using this method, but some do prefer using tinfoil over simply heating a cigarette - each to his own.
If you smoke with tobacco, I can't see why you would not want to toast it. I'm a regular cigarette smoker, and even I find the taste of a joint mixed with un-toasted tobacco to be horrible. So try it out!
