Herbal Hunter wrote:thanks for your thoughts, its a great help! What im after is quality bud but not as expensive, thats why i was wondering if its worth venturing out of the centre or not. I dont mind payin the prices in the centre, but when it averages about £10 a gram it isnt the cheapest really is it! So any hidden gems please let me know
Im sure where ever you go in Amsterdam Strains like Super Silver Haze and Cheese will be no cheaper that 9/10Euros a gram, however buying 5 grams of the stuff and you will get a small discount.

For budget weeds that IMO are ok try these:

Picasso Special (Picasso CS) 5E per gram. I think its the left overs and tiny buds from the weeds they sell, i think you can get 5g for 21.50E or something like that

Haze (Picasso CS) 20E for 3 grams. Got that Haze effect, good way to start your day IMO.

Blueberry (Mellow Yellow/Noon CS) 25E/23E for 4 grams. Nice deal when they have the fresh batch in.

GreenPlace do 5 gram deals on the old skool strains like Jack Herer, White Widon and AK47 etc for 35E

As im a Cheese lover, Dampkring/Tweede Kamer had the best cheese on my recent visit and it was only 9E per gram in contrast to Homegrown Fantasy who has had the majority vote on this site for having very good Cheese which is 10E for only 0.8 per g.

I went to Eindhoven (where ive heard it will be considerbly cheaper)and paid 8E for 0.8 of SSH, same price as Mellow Yellow in Amsterdam which was 10E for 1 gram.

Hope this helps a bit

Excuse me while I light my Spliff.....

Thought I'd cross-reference this other threadwherein Trichome_Dense reports Amnesia Haze on sale at Mellow Yellow for E8/g. Haven't tried it myself but plan to stock up if it's still around. Other than this one example, I really haven't seen many worthy strains under E10/g, which seems to be a price threshold of sorts. For E10/g, you can find a lot of great weed and still stay in the Centrum.

You might want to check out FlyByNight's excellent menu pages:

I recommend having a look at Katsu's menus -- I've had a lot of good, cheap stuff from there and there's plenty to do around the Albert Cuyp Markt.
Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

within walking distance there is probably not much difference in price unless you find a specific tip in someone's recent travel report

the walk itself should be fascinating though and there are some lovely coffeeshops further out from the center of the city such as Yo-Yo

the prices in haarlem can be better than in the city and is worth considering for a day trip, it's pretty and a bit quieter than the city in summer and all the sights are there too, it is easy to reach by train and not too expensive for a day out

another useful source of price information is the coffeeshop menus website that can be found at http://www.black-arts.org/~reatta/menus.html

oh duh this information is the previous message well what was i smoking

Im planning to go to a'dam but was wondering what people think is the best time of year to do so? I dont mind socialising with other people but dont want to find everywhere is packed n the nice bud has run out etc. Also, are the decent shops u talk about on these forums all in the city centre? I ask because ive been told that further away from the centre the coffee shops are less tourist based and can be cheaper with nicer produce. And has any1 got any recommendations for areas to stay in? I dont mind stayin in a quieter area, but of course that depends where the quality bud is at Thanks for your time and any advice or opinions would be much appreciated!
In my opinion that depends on which factors you prefer.
In late spring, summer, and early fall there will be huge crowds and long line ups for tourist attractions, museums, more expensive accomodations costs, etc., but the days are long and long walks in the city and/or hanging out in Vondel Park can be can be very pleasant.

C Cup time is also when shops would be really crowded.

Winter time, would mean fewer crowds, possibly cheaper accomodations (off-season rates) and so on. The weather, while not necessarily pleasant is not too bad. If you live in the US, the winter weather will, typically, be as good or better (i.e. as warm or warmer) than your local weather, provided that you do not live in the sunbelt (i.e. Southwest US, Florida, Southern Gulf States, etc.). If you live in the US Pacific Northwest (Washinton State, especially Seattle area or Oregon) or if you live in Vancouver, then the weather will almost match your local typical weather. i.e. Bring an umbrella. )

IMO, one problem with off-season travel is that many of the charter flights (from North America) end in October, and only start up again in March/April, so cheaper flights are sometimes harder to find. However, the lower accomodation rates, and shorter queues, might make up for this difference.
I've been in winter (March) and it was cold, wet and dreary
GeoffK, don't you hail from Colorado? If so, then Colorado, would, typically, be much colder than Holland, in winter time, right? I mean you guys get shitloads of snow, in Colorado.

I take what you mean about being dreary. It took me a long time to get used to the rainy winters, here. Originally, I lived in place that was brutally cold in winter (and smoking hot in summer), but the winters were generally sunny, so they were not dreary. I would much prefer slightly colder winters as long as they were also sunnier.

That's my 2 cents worth.

both of the above can be true

what makes the difference is that colorado cold is dry and holland cold is wet

colorado is colder but holland feels colder

the climate in holland is neither really cold or really warm but hovers around in the middle so the combination of cold and wet and winds can be horrible

the dreary comes from low grey skies that skid across the low lands next to the north sea, at these times the north sea can itself be very grey and menacing and all that adds up to a dreariness that can be challenging

First off, print yourself a couple of copies of this Map. <---Clicky and take them with you.

Mark where you are staying on the map, pick the shops you want to visit.
Check out their latest posted menu on the Coffeeshop Menus page. You can get a good feel for the strains and prices you will encounter.

The above suggestions work any time of the year.
