Haha I like that quote Paulli. One thing you guys have to factor in was when I went on this trip last summer I was 17 years old and still in higschool, I also looked a fair bit younger then I do now so I was easily a target, most of you probably have full facial hair and what not haha me on the contrary.. and of course I know I could stomp someone but I just felt that being a young backpacker from the U.S makes me one of the easiest targets so the blade was just an extra precaution, I wasnt running around with the thing waving it at people, I just kept it in my pocket so if anything unfortunate ever did happen, well... you get the picture.

What is the world coming to when the people who DONT want to stab somebody starts carrying knives???   .

You maybe are still young and impressionable, a knife will not make you any safer, if any it will make you more vunerable, like the quote says anyone can carry a (knife), etc etc, but what happens when the other guys willingly pulls out a knife also. I understand your point of view with being a young tourist, but trust me mate, being tooled up could lead to instances that you just cannot control.

We need to get the knives off the streets, not just in the UK but all over the world..
Excuse me while I light my Spliff.....

Weapons of any sort tend to be a mistake. It is very common that the victims weapon get used against them. We seldom have the compulsion to use the weapon without hesitation. We are not the desperate one in the confrontation. As a result the weapon is often taken from the victim. The best weapon you can carry with you is your street smarts, nothing more.

I got the same feeling SoulRider that Jesscass is a female. I've been going to A'Dam since 79 and have had no problems as of yet, just use your common sense and be watchful. Be safe and have a great time.
Peace

Thanks to all of you. Much appreciated.

Soulrider:

First: I'm reading this forum since more than one year and enjoyed most of your posts. I would say you're some kind of a balance regarding this forum and I mostly agree to them. Additionally your posts mostly seem to be well considered as you seem to be a decent person.

You posted this and I can't really understand why. I don't really see any relation.

You've got kind of spring fever  ? For the record: I'm not a female(first and foremost I'm a human being  ).
Don't get me wrong but I was asking myself how a female would feel when reading this(I mean a female not being into the extremes of feminism or patriach. A female.). It's such a stereotype point of view to me. At least "you're only honest" I know.

I do understand your line of thought nevertheless(as my whole post here seem to be contradictory, too. Whatever, again: I expected such comments but not from you.).

See, I'm not into new age or pc and I'm able to recognize irony(as sarcasm or cynism)but first things I thought when reading your post and failing to find any realtions were: macho?Misogynist  ?

That means: If this was a joke this would be my sense of humour. But it doesn't look like this. You see my point here?
I'm sure you do. Tell me about the intention of your post please. Perhaps I overlooked something in my self-righteous point of view.

No offence intended(easier said than done).

I guess Americans are more used to travelling 'armed' so to speak. Some states in America even allow you to carry a concealed handgun, that to me is just like......wtf! How can citizens be trusted to carry round such weapons?

Well. In USA it is not uncommun to have nuttah going on a shooting spree in a school, but yanks will still tell you how having a gun is a must. Fuck that!

RasaLibree wrote:Risk if caught? what risk? its perfectly legal to carry around a pocket knife and I did so for a full month and a half across Europe, and trust me I was in no need of using it for self defense, I train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Boxing and Muay Thai, I just felt that if a group of people e tried to mugg me the blade is the best way to scare em off.

Knives are a bad idea kid! They only make you wanna use it when the shit goes down - and what if the opposition pulls out an even bigger knife? What? You think they aint gonna use it? Takin' a chance there kid!

In London - Gun crime aint as bad as it is in the States but knife crime is common occurance here on the streets - Its a lot more messier with a knife - and takes more courage to use one than you'd think... IMO searches should be more stringent regarding weapons on city streets...

On that note "R.I.P - C.J." whose life was cut short, he fell victim to knife crime on our streets - and will be missed by all who ever had the pleasure of knowing him... Was like a lil Brother to LiquidSwords...

Dont need a blade if you know Muai Thai mate - those shins of yours should be like rock - like mine mate! :D And anyway - you're going to Dam for a blaze up - If you do get confrontation, just pull out a dummy wallet - chuck it in their face and RUN! It's better than having to fight I tell ya!
... as long as it aint a cheque ;)
